It's going to reside in my pocket. I carry a leatherman 5 days so the knife is for real knifework and weekends. All comments on fit and finish and your preference on a particular pattern are welcome, especially if you have that knife.I've always had a preference for Stockmans, but lately, my EDC usually ends up being my Ebony Mini Copperlock.

Schatt & Morgan scout
A.G Russell Scout
Schatt & Morgan 2 blade Rail Splitter
Schatt & Morgan Muskrat
MooreMaker Buffalo Muscrat
Case Jr. Scout

All great knives, stick a pin in your list to pick one

I do not think anyone ever made a scout knife with half stops. Why would it matter if a bail was stainless or nickel silver?

Okay, y'all gotta quit talkin about this stuff. I was perusing that jigged bone, Premium Scout over on A.G.'s site after all this chatter. I don't need anymore objects to lust after right now. I have other commitments first. Darn, that is a fine looking scouter there.

I think you got some sound advice from one of the best.

You'll be happy with any of those.

Decisions decisions....just some randome thoughts...

If you always carry the Leatherman, the scouts might be redundant since you will have screwdrivers already...

The SM 2 blade railsplitter is a nice beefy knife, 2 large blades and thick blade stock...

Muskrats are going to be more light duty since thery are desinged as skinning knives...the Schatt muskrat blades are pretty thin, which is good for a skinner...

Thr MM Buffalo knives that I have owned have had very "boxy" thick handles, no rounded...some people like this, some don't....

Do you have the Railsplitter?I really like this knife, sort of like a Muskrat only beefier.Half stops?I would think closed, the blades lie in good together. How is it in the pocket?I think the Case is out. I have always liked Case and carried a 63062 CV Stockman for years.Do you think Queen/S&M are equal to, less ,or better than Case?

If you're looking for a strong knife that cuts like there's no tomorrow, you should take a look at Great Eastern Cuttlery's Scouts and Pioneer (basically a large trapper and a smaller one). They've got half stops, strong springs and sharp 1095 convex ground blades.

They look great.Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of half stops. The thing has to sit in my pocket also.I really like how they pin the shield too.
I am starting to lean toward the Muskrats.I've always wanted one, but never owned one.The Railsplitters a bit beefier as is the scout.Probably takes some getting used to.I think my tastes are changing again.

Hawk, you live near me I believe (MA)..I think we corresponded about the NCCA show last month. Anyway, I have a lot of Queens and Schatts, if you ever want to get together and talk knives, I could let you handle some pattterns "in person" to see how you like them. Just a thought, if you're interested email me profguy81@aol.com

Thanks. When is the next knife show in Marlboro?

I keep on eyeballing Mooremakers. Specifically the Musgrats, punch blade stockman and the Moose. The carbon steel is appealing.
