Decided this could be fun.

I've got the itch for a new knife and I've decided that needs to be a Spyderco of some type. Why? Because I'm mainly looking for something with a tool steel and Spyderco offers the most. Here's what I've narrowed the choices down to:

1. Spyderco Police FRN - K390
- a big boy but I don't have a problem with this size of knife. K390 is my absolute favorite steel at this point of what I've tried.

2. GB2
- There are a lot of pros with this knife being that it has M4 steel and a killer hollow grind. Cons are the scales as I'll want to change them which does add more expense to the knife.

3. Para 2 - Cruwear/Micarta
- this knife is pretty turnkey. I don't like that it's thicker bte than the other two and has thicker stock than the Police but it's a great knife overall and cruwear is always nice.

Those are the three that currently interest me. What is your vote? Am I missing something?

Out of those 3 , I’d get the k390 Police, but I’m partial to large folders.

Definitely gonna pick up a Millie 2 as soon it comes out in something other than s30v!

I just picked up a GB2 after quite a few years of avoiding it. I loved my GB1 and never thought I could love the GB2……..I think I actually love it more. It’s such a fantastic knife. That would be my choice!!

Police is much larger than I like to carry and prefer a liner lock to the compression lock had a PM3 and gave it to my son so GB2 for me, knew going in I'd swap the scales and clip.

K390 Delica (you can close the thread, now; and thank me later)

Awesome even without the scale swap

If it has to be one of the three mentioned in the op, the only option for me would be the GB2 (with a scale swap, because the only thing I disliked about the GB1 was the proud liners)

Each of your 3 choices is "different" and any of them should be fine, depending on your particular needs/interests.

As for me . . .

1) I haven't bought a Police FRN K390 because I don't like the teal blue color of the scales and I'm still searching for the black G10 K390 version of the knife.

2) I wouldn't buy a Para 2 (Cruwear/Micarta) because don't need anything more than the standard black G10 S30V version of it that I already own.

3) I already own a GB2 but prefer the GB1 that I also own. The things that I like about the GB1 are the thicker liners, blade/handle shape and generally sturdier construction. HHMoore & I apparently disagree about the liners.

So, my only recommendation is for you is to check out a GB1 before buying a GB2, if you can. You won't make a "mistake" buying a GB2 but you should know what the GB1 is like before you rule it out.

I have had all of the knives you listed And settled for one not on the list.

A Delica in whatever Steel calls you.

I heard he was no longer active! He is the one responsible for those beautiful Micarta SAKs, am I mistaken?

Don't know about the SAK's....he mostly sticks with Spyderco. He's recently posted in this forum about a new project he's working on - contoured titanium scales for Spydie models. His Bladeforums username is BOOMER52

I have no personal affiliation with Steve - just a happy client.

Does anyone have an idea of what something like that might cost, if that is an okay question?

The police is huge… so that’s out for me. The GB2 has a weird cutout for the liner lock that chews up the thumb if you fidget all day. If you don’t have a PM2 I’d get that, but I think everyone should have a shaman, and a Manix 2. If you can score a Manix lw in maxamet or s110v, even better. Highly underrated.

If you don't have a PM2, that's a good option. I'm not a huge fan of the micarta on the CruWear version myself, but a lot of folks seem to like it. CruWear is nice stuff.

Of the three, the Gayle Bradley 2 is the one I'd most recommend. It has a bit of a different feel from all the other Spydies that I have. I personally have no issue with the liner lock. The GB2 has always seemed the most classy looking Spydie to me.

A Casey Lynch deep carry clip is a nice addition to the PM2 or the GB2.

Steve is still active. He just recently made me a set of contoured, TeroTuf scales for one of my Delicas (but don’t ask for a set because he hates the material, lol). You just have to pique his interest a bit with a project. I know he’s had some interest in trying out SureTouch on his CNC. A set of SureTouch scales would have the same look as the layered G10 pictured above…. And would be a lot more grippy.

I can’t recommend Steve’s work enough. I have a few sets of scales from him and each set has been perfect.
