Okay guys, so through the years, I have gotten pretty darn good at freehand sharpening with water stones. But I need advice.
I have an array of DMT extra large bench stones, and Shapton glass waterstones up to 2000 grit. Now, as i think about needing even more stones, here is my problem.
I really like the Japanese Naniwa or Chosera water stones. But i know nothing about them. Actually, i just really need some feedback on them, and would like to know the difference between the two types. You see, i love the way the DMT's work so fast, and i love the feel in my hands from the glass Shaptons.
Now, a lot of people swear by the Japanese water stones, and I really want to know more about them. Can anyone tell me about these, and why them might be better?
It just seems that free hand is an "old school" type of thing, which I enjoy for that reason. But, am I selling myself short with the diamonds and glass?
Is the Japanese water stone thing even more traditional? I feel that it is, and that i why i need convincing to spend some more money on cool new set of Japanese water stones. I looked on Sharpening Supplies, and they have some stones of a lot of different grits called Naniwa and a type called Chosera.
So, all in all, would you say that as far as water stones go, which of these all different types of stones are the best, and give the better feedback in your hands?
Thanks for your patience. I am just feeling like getting away from the diamonds a bit to something more traditional, and getting even better feeling in my hands from the stones if possible, since I am getting real good at it now. Thanks again guys.
