i got my income tax check and allowing myself one new knife. i lost my beloved buck stockman that i carried for year. it was just a chinese one but saw alot of carry and use. i just bought a case texas jack to have a small knife to carry. this is my first case and i love it. strong springs and takes a good edge.

i am wanting a knife in cv now. i dont really care to much about the scales. im more of a user than a collector. i like the plain black scales of my texas jack.

what pattern should i get? its between a stockman (which i have carried for years), a trapper, a back pocket, or ???????? id like to stay under $70.

i dont realy like the muscrat or toothpicks. so i want you people to sway me either way.

i work my knives. they do everything from cutting apples to skinning squirrels to scraping old resin off my wood stove. lol.

help me please.

You can buy a Case 63032 Stockman in CV. I own one in the SS and like it just fine - nice medium size Stockman (similar in size to the Buck 303).

A nice case Trapper (yellow or bone) in CV...blades for cuttin' and skinnin' both! (I'm on a trapper kick lately so I'm biased)

You can find the Case stockman & Trapper for around $38 if you look around the intranets. So for just a little over your $70 you could get both. :)

I agree. Case Stockman or maybe a Mini Trapper? CV blades and pick your scales. I recently got my first Trapper (a GEC #48) and really like it.

I suggest a Böker Germany in their carbon. Sharpens well and I've had great quality results from these knives.

Their Stockman has nice rounded bolsters, the Whittler is a versatile compact knife and the Copperhead is an unjustly overlooked pattern. Washboard Bone is a particularly nice handle, but so are Apoloosa and Grand Canyon or Redbone. Prices are most reasonable and the quality matches or exceeds CASE.
