Ok, you guys gotta help me figure out what I should get next. Here's what I'm considering: a BM Axis lock (probably either the bigger Osborne [940?] or the new Griptilian), a MOD (probably either a Trident, Tempest, or if I could swing it a CQD), an EDi (Genesis I), a REKAT Carnivore Cub, and who knows what else. I know that's really broad, but I would appreciate any comments or opinions about the quality, design, utility, etc of these knives or any others you would consider a possibility. I would especially appreciate comments from owners, but everyone is welcome to chime in. Thanks!

Well I have to honest and inform you that I'm a REKAT fan and will be very biased in my reply! With the disclaimer out of the way I think that the Carnivore Cub is an outstanding knife! (Big suprise there?)Today I had the chance to handle a BM 550 and think it a great knife for the money! I doubt
you could go wrong with either one. The Osbourne 940 is not in the catagory as the other two. It is a nice knife, just not a heavy duty work knife. Happy knife hunting!

A Pat on the Back is only a few inches from a Kick in the Butt.

I would personally suggest that you buy the Trident. It's quality is awesome. It's just the right size 3.4" not big, not too small. It feels great in the hand, and has a very solid lock. Of course others will swear by the Axis lock, but IMO, you get more bang for your buck with the Trident. And a finger groove also. Although if you like the blade shape, or want a thinner blade, get the Osborne. Both of those companies are much better known for their QC than the other two you mentioned.

I have two choices for you:

1. The above mentioned REKAT ATS-34 Carnivour Cub (MY 1st choice, as it is "tip-up" carry, just like my Sifu).

2. A REKAT Pioneer II. (With this one, you get a choice of 4 different blade-styles, and "tip-down" carry.).

Alright, so I'm adding a new one to the mix, but have you considered the SOG Vision series?

I've handled the Vision a number of times in the past week, and this thing is *solid*, Titanium-handled, big-bladed goodness. Locks up tight, seems sharp enough to me. If titanium is too heavy for you, there's the Night Vision (w/G10 scales) and the X-Ray Vision (w/Xytel scales).

The best bit of advice? Pick what's most comfortable to you!

Here is my .02 worth..

I'm a newly annointed member of the REKAT fan club. I love my new Pioneer II and have a NIT carni cub on the way that I just traded for my MOD Tempest + $20.

The MOD is a great knife, fit and finish rocks on it and I love the bowie blade but there is some hidden magnetic draw to the REKAT's and I just had to own more than one, limited funds meant trading something else.

I have been getting the shaft lately with BM's as I've gotten 3 in the last few weeks that I returned due to poor QC. I'm picky but a $100 + knife should have proper blade alignment. So right now I'm not BM's biggest fan. Don't get me wrong REKAT has their QC problems as well, as do many makers. I've had QC problems from all of them at one point or another though (MT, MOD, BM & REKAT)

I have a BM 705 that is one of the best quality knives I own so I'm not a BM bigot and I plan to add a 710 as soon as I find one that is assembled properly.

If you can swing it and don't mind a heavier piece the MT LCC is by far the most bang for your buck IMO.

If you are trying too keep the price under $100 I'd go for any or the REKAT's if you want to spend more than I would seriously look at the MT LCC.
