Between the Benchmade Stryker and the 722.

Basicly, I want a coated blade, 3-4" blade or larger, would like handle to be black, combo edge, and I like tanto...

So between the 722 Mel Pardue and the 910 Stryker, which is better preffered. The 722 is more expensive, but many people have said the stryker is actually better. How about the 940?

Btw, I will be using this while on duty as a LEO, and just a regular everyday knife...

lowest price I have found for them:
722SBT $112.50
910SBT $84.37

what is the M2 High speed steel with teflon coating. (well, i know what teflon is, but m2 high speed steel I don't know). The 910HSSR, $90.62, and is this better than the 910SBT?

Any suggestions to other benchmades would be great. I've given up on Emersons because I want a V-grind, when I want a chisel, I'll look back at them. And microtech and Masters of Defense are outside my budget.

thanks

ReconTech,
You stated that you will be carrying the On Duty as well as regular carry.....I would go with the 722 for a couple of reasons. It has good ergonomics and an Axis lock(and it's very sturdy). The Axis lock would serve you better, IMHO.
As far as high speed steel goes, I guess it's a matter of personal opinion...It holds a good edge and it's durable. I don't own one of BM's HS models because other models have met my needs. Opinions vary but I would go with the 722 for your needs, especially since you like the Tanto blade.
Good luck & and have a Merry Christmas!

I am an LEO and carry the Wave feature Emerson Commander. No folder deploys faster, Period. If you like the tanto point the CQC7 with the wave feature has a 3.3" blade. I use my knives for everything including things they are not meant for, and the Emersons, in my opinion, hold up excellant. I also carry a Tops Knives Loner. Tops is a great no frills knife and they provide excellant service.

Just my .02 cents

If you like tantos and are on a budget then don't overlook the crkt M16 series. There are many models but the aluminum or Ti versions have better blade steel. The 722 would be my preference out of the BMs but if I were on a budget the CRKT would be my choice and is under $50!:D

M2 steel is used for cutters and bits made to cut other metals. It contains tungsten as one of the elements, to give it high "red hardness". It remains hard even when very hot.

From Joe Talmadge's steel faq.
"M-2
A "high-speed steel", it can hold its temper even at very high
temperatures, and as such is used in industry for high-heat cutting
jobs. It is an excellent edge holder. It is tough but not as tough
as some of the toughest steels in this section; however, it will still
be tougher than the stainless steels and hold an edge better. It
rusts easily. Benchmade has started using M-2 in one of their AFCK
variations."

Yes, I forgot about the m-16 series, they are a good choice for a budget and deploys quickly with their flipper. I owned the big tanto and liked everything about them except that the flipper would get caught on my pants pocket.

Hi,

completely of the opic but as I'm so fond of the knife have you considered A sog Vision? X-ray or night vision springs to mind.

Just thought I'd mention it :)
