I will be going on a backpack in high country mule deer hunt this eary fall and weight will be at a premium, my hardest gear decisions will be in the flashlight and knife departments, I think I have the flashlights down but need help with the knives, Im not asking for brand recomendations but for which knife styles and the number to carry.

I plan on carrying a compact saw for wood and game processing if necessary.

A large camp knife is out of the question.

I own SAK's,medium fixed blades,all sizes of folders,leathermans.

Here are the possible catagories:

Medium fixed blade on the light side(SPY-Perrin,Benchmade Nimravus,Sog x-42 field.

Large strong folders(socom elite,carnivour,806d2 axis ect.)

Inside the guts knife as I call it(gerber gator mate drop point, ect)

Knife tool-Wave,pulse ect.

SAK-large like the trailmaster

I also have a SAK tinker model with sewing needles and a drill bit inside the sheath with a collar bolted on for drilling small holes but it is there mostly for holding the sewing thread wrapped around it.

I wouldent mind also carrying a small or medium stockman.

I would like to carry one from every catagory but it wouldent be practical, should I take the multi tool and leave the SAK's behind?

Should I leave the fixed blade and rely on a large folder?

Should I be happy with the knife blades on the Wave and leave the stout folder and slipjoint home and just carry the fixed, inside the guts and the large SAK?

What would you carry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I would take a Spyderco Moran Drop Point and a Victorinox Hunter (locking blade model with a wood saw and a gutting blade).

I did leave out one other knife type, the small fixed blade like the Moran you suggest which I have along with the trailing point Moran .

Thanks,Frank.
