Help me decide...

About once a year, I get a KP (kitchen pass) from the wife to go on a 5-7 day trip. 2004 was hiking in the Rockies, 2005 was mountain biking around Chaco Canyon in NM, and this year (tonight) will be solo sea kayak camping in the Apostle Island archipelago.

I've been blessed with a variety of cutlery and the fun part is deciding what to take with me. The kayak is a 17' boat with three large watersealed compartments, so weight isn't an issue. I could live out of the supply load of this boat for weeks.

So my options are as follows:

Chopper:
Heavy Heart
Battle Rat
Rat Mastiff
Hell Razor
WWII khukuri
BK91
Ratweiler
Camp Tramp
M6
Mr. Mojo (not really in consideration. It's mint and I'm trading it.)

Smaller Fixed:
SJTac
Battle Scrapper
Desert Jack
Dog Skinner
Bog Dog d2
Northstar
Game Warden

Folder:
Spyderco Manix
Kershaw Cyclone
BM Ares
BM 940
BM 921
Spyderco Merlin (serrated and plain)
MT Amphibian (probably not, auto carry issues)
Spyderco Calypso Jr.
SAK OHT
BM Skirmish and Mini-Skirmish

I'm thinking the Battle Rat, the Game Warden and the OHT. The Battle Rat is a big, comfortable chopper. The Game Warden is a nice sweet, SHARP fixed blade. The Bog Dog comes in as a close second. The OHT isn't all that stout but with the backup of the fixed blades it's got the tools for some fine stuff.

If this bores you, then just ignore it. I just have so much fun deciding that I'm prolonging the process by asking for advice.

Thanks in advance!

Hell Razor or Camp Tramp for an all around:thumbup: and watch the winds from "superior"
smooth sail'in:D :D best- a- luck bring us pic's:thumbup:

Well for simplicity sake and basic needs I would go with the Tramp and the Warden. If I was looking to play around a bit and field test a few I woudl add the Heavy Heart and play Hulk and smash things !! :D

If that's the case, take 'em all and go on a rampage :D

Then the men in little white coats haul me off an island in a motorboat. :D

Yeah, but imagine all the fun you would have beforehand

Don' forget to save some room for the scotch/whiskey supply... To keep you warm if the wind picks up of course ;)

Chopper: Heavy Heart
Smaller Fixed (backup): Game Warden
Folder: Spyderco Manix

You Dog!! That is going to be an excellent trip! And the weather should be quite nice as well! Have a great time - and beat on some INFI !!

And now I know where your name comes from. :D

I agree with the Battle Rat, the Game Warden and the SAK.
If the Bog Dog is such a close second bring it along and see which ones you use more.
The kayak can handle the weight without much of a difference to you so go nuts!!:)
I wish I could go on an extended Yak trip. (my wife is having our first baby in about four weeks:eek: ) I can't wait to someday take my son on a trip like that! The wife can come too if she wants;)

Iffin' you are in a mood for cheese, well then...

Chopper: Battle Rat
Smaller Fixed: Desert Jack
Folder: BM Skirmish

I would take the Heavy Heart, Game Warden and the SAK.

my 2 cents.

I'd take the Heavy Heart, because that's probably what you'll have when you leave the islands behind after the trip. I went to the Broken Island Group on the west coast of Vancouver Island (http://www.yellowmaps.com/maps/broken_group_topo_map.htm) over a decade ago and had the trip of a lifetime. I learned it is important to remember that you travel much faster down wind/current than up (and the painful reverse).

Have a great trip!

...so much fun...

Well, well, well...
It appears that you are neither Hog nor Rat nor Dog...
Rather, one of them-thar hybrid types... :D
Perhaps we have a new species in our midst...
Could it be a HoRaDo? A DoRaHo? A... hmmm... uuuhh...

Whatever it's called, ya got a nice collection of blades there.

And my picks would be the Heavy Heart, Game Warden and SAK OHT. I'd probably also include the M6 and Manix for any (unlikely, but always possible) "serious" use. That, and I'd love a review (not so subtle hint) of the M6...

Have fun, take pics (otherwise I'll say you just sat on the couch for a week...) and return safely.

Well, I had a great time and hated to go back to work. To stick with the tune of this thread, I'll mention that I brought my Battle Rat, Game Warden and Cyclone for most every job. The BR split wood, chopped fallen limbs into usable firewood, and dug quick privies. The Game Warden was used for making fuzz sticks. The Cyclone for everything else.

I brought along my Manix and OHT but they saw no action.

The trip was gorgeous with lots of sea caves that were large enough to paddle my kayak inside. The on-water shots were done with a lo-res 640kb camera so pardon the quality. The others were taken one morning at an island camp. I paddled about 50 miles over 3.5 days and saw lots of bald eagles, yellow finches, butterflies, a badger, and one late night visiting bear.

Great Pics. I white water Kayak in Colombia (south america) but because of the dangers, I only go on day trips that are within a two hour drive from Bogota.
