Man, you think you know what you want then you see another knife or read another review.. then you think you want something else... then it all starts over again. not good. :)

So I went ahead and bought me a SAK - wenger ranger 57.

and know I'm looking for a bushcraft knife. I'm torn between buying something that cost more like a Fallkniven S1, which seem like it will last forever, or buying a couple mora's.

The S1 is more expensive quality knife but I could instead buy a couple mora's and still save some money. I convinced the S1 would probably last forever but a couple mora's probably would also and it seems like every review I've read about the mora's is great.

So if you were going to be spending a lot of time trekking through the forest (like on a weekly basis)... which would you buy?

What tasks do you intend to do? Chopping? Batoning? Slicing? Food prep?

The task at hand dictates what knife you should use. Yes, the Falkniven might last longer than the Mora. However, the Mora will be an excellent knife- it's not a chopper.

Two other companies to look at are RAT (not the Ontario stuff) and Bark River.
Expensive, but darn good.

yea.. I just started looking at the rc-4 today (definitely like the look). I'm not sure how I will be using it. I'll be trekking through some forested area's of India and maybe some of the surrounding countries. I may never really "need" the knife but want something that's kinda good at everything in case I do. I bought a SAK and figure that will probably be used the most..but just want something a little more rugged if needed.

Do you think that RC-4 and the S1 are about the same quality?

No reason why a good Mora knife won't last a lifetime too.

Which would I buy? I'd get a Fallkniven S1 for the collection, and a Mora for carrying. :)

regarding fixed blades
for the forrest stuff, i prefer my carbon v SRK, and if its really humid, il take my f1, its small and capable.
i ve also used a cold steel gi tanto, cheap and very tough, will last....
but the srk looks better :D
i also carry a millie, and a sak soldier, before that i carried a douk douk as a folder
i ve heard good things about the manix, dont have it though...yet
returning to fixed blade areas, the busse knives with their supper duper steel type, dont remember right now the exact name, have had very good reviews for durability, corrosion resistance, edge holding and so on
