So I've carried a CQC7 for years, first a Benchmade and now an EKI version. I really like the size, platform, etc. About 2 years ago, I got an itch and the awesome woman in my life scored me a CQC13 which I also really like, but it's a bit "scary" looking for carry in the city. Last summer I got hooked on a ZT0551 and was carrying that for a while, but lately my Emerson fetish has reared its ugly head again and I'm looking to buy another Emerson!

I want something with EDC appeal that is somewhat sheeple friendly. As awesome as my CQC13 is, it's a big knife and I'm always on "alert" to make sure I'm not drawing too much attention to myself when I pull it out! I live in the city, but occasionally like to head out to the woods for a hike, plus I hunt and fish too so something that would at least be useful in those environments is a plus. I'm kind of torn between my top picks, the CQC10 and Journeyman- but would also consider a CQC8 and maybe a Commander (not sure how I feel about recurves though). What do you guys think of the pocketability vs. utilty of these options? Which would be your favorite and why? Comparison pics of any of those models would also be great!

If carrying something with a little size is of no issue, then I would highly suggest the Journeyman. Great ergos, and the blade profile keeps things easily servicable. The A100 and Journeyman have the best plains for resharpening, and with Emerson's it's a breeze. I just whetstone everything to keep it simple, but his V-grind (primary V, secondary chisel), is perfect for that. I love the A100 as well, and it would be close to your CQC-7, but the added size couldn't hurt.

Despite the size, the Journeyman doesn't look like a baby killer. Just a well-build, traditional[esque] blade.

With Emerson -- there's no wrong answer.

Another CQC10 carrier. I can't even feel the knife in my pocket. I actually went to dealer for the 8, but I got an exceptional price on the 10. It is a super knife. HOWEVER, all of those models are bullet proof. I'd say go with most appealing (curb appeal). THE CQC8 has been the choice of British SAS and has a huge following for a good reason. The Journeyman is like a straight CQC11, except shorter.

A great choice for carry in the "City" is the CQC-14, it has a full size handle and the entire blade is less than 2.5 inches long with just about 2 inches of cutting edge, so it's legal in most places. I have been pretty happy with mine and the only thing the local Cops have ever said about it is "nice emerson!".
