The latest A.G. Russell catalog has a Texas Ranger commemorative knife on the cover and it makes me crazy. It is EXACTLY the style I like -- 3.5 inch Bowie clip blade, jigged bone, lockback -- EXCEPT I don't want a commemorative for everyday carry (although I may buy the Russell just to have). Anyone have an idea where I could find a knife like this without paying a premium for the blade etch and badge inlay? There are a lot that are close (Boker, Hen and Rooster, and so on), but I'm looking for this pattern exactly. Any ideas? Or am I just getting senile? Who makes this knife for Russell? Thanks for any help.

Hi,

You could buy the Remington 1992 Bullet knife with Staglon Derlin handle. The exact knife minus Texas Ranger motif, is the Camillus Classic Cartridge model #CCC-6. Both are quite common on Ebay for $35-40.

How do you like SOG Tomcat? It's the best bowie blade lockback I've handled...

Thanks for the responses. The Camillus is the pattern. I've had a Buck 110 for about 30 years -- best $17 I've ever spent. I also have a Tomcat, but quit carrying it every day when I began to travel by air weekly. Mine has rubber grips, but I sure like the looks of wooden ones. So maybe I'll get two knives. And I still might get the A.G. Russell commemorative. Thanks again.

The Remington 1992 Bullet (manuf by Camillus) and Camilus Classic Cartridge have blades of 440A or similar low alloy stainless steel. The scales are genuine plastic and quality control is not the best.

A.G. Russell model is made in the USA with 154CM steel blade and jigged bone scales. I wonder if it is made for A.G. Russell by Camillus or Queen?

If you are planning to use the knife it may be worth the higher price (3 times) for the better steel and real bone scales. The knife design is close to the original Remington 1930-1940's lockback selling today for $600-$800.

You can go to the Buck Knives website and make you own customized version of the 110 Folding Hunter. They offer premium blade steels and a lot of good handle materials, including stag.

The Camillus model I mentioned is 440A, But the scales are real bone, and the fit, and finish were very well done:). There are actually two different Camillus Cartridge series of knives.

Queen, Alcas, and Bowen have also made this pattern of knives, but they are hard to find. Not to mention the Remington Silver bullet quality knives.
