Hello everyone,

Just starting to get interested in traditional folders. I'm looking for a cheap-ish folder... like a Case in 1095 or something.

- At least 2 blades. not too picky about what type of blades.

- Any type of handle.

Basically I'm not picky. Just looking for the cheapest, best bang for my buck, way to get into traditionals.

I can spend up to around $50. Is it worth getting anything that cheap? or should I save longer?

Any input you can give me will be appreciated.

I'm in Canada...if you can recommend somewhere to order it from online, that would be a plus. Any site sponsers I can order from?

Thanks

(Non BF Dealer reference removed. You can provide this kind of info via email, please) in Toronto is good, not sure if they have traditional folders, not my cup o tea. Check them out on line, they have cheap shipping and are fast.

You can't go wrong getting a yellow delrin Case stockman in CV steel. About 40 bucks (shipping extra).

A case trapper with CV steel and yellow Delrin sounds like it would fit the bill. Around $40 or sometimes a little cheaper if you are lucky.

Definitely this. The value of the yellow delrin and CV knives are outstanding. You can't go wrong with yella Case and CV.

You can also save up and get a GEC made traditional folder. Their geometry is right where I like a traditional knife. They are a step up from Case in the fit and finish.

What size knife are you looking for? What sort of tasks will it be used for? Will you be using it for hard work or basic daily tasks? There are a lot of great options in that price range. My other suggestions besides a case trapper in yellow and cv are
Case small Texas jack
Case medium stockman
Case peanut
Old timer 34ot, or 8ot USA made

Case makes a lot of good knives in carbon steel for around $50 give or take, that is where I would start, the quality is great and they are easy to find. There are some others in carbon steel that are cheaper, but harder to find like the USA made old timers before they were sold to Taylor brands and made over seas, if you can find a decent price on one they are worth it for sure.

why don't you just look in the exchange here and if you don't see something you like then go to the auction sites and there is more of them than rip off ebay. I can't think of one post where a member has said one good thing about ebay. the trouble is shipping to your country is going to be high because that is what they charge us to ship.

Whoops, sorry about that.

Case Canadian Dealer Locator:

I don't know how much things cost in Canada but it is quite easy to find a wide selection of Case knives in the US for $40 US or less.

They are fine pocket knives and in my opinion well worth the money. You can pay more for better knives (Great Eastern Cutlery for instance), but if you're looking for a good decent quality user, then Case is a fine choice.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, there's a Case Exclusive Master Dealer up in Kamloops. You could also call them to see if they ship. Use that dealer locator tool I linked above to find their name and address, since I can't mention them on the forum.

You made a good decision - I think.

The Stockman in yellow and SV is a great EDC :)

Congratz!
