Hey guys I am looking for a fixed blade and open to suggestions.

Requirements:
1)Max cost 200$

2)Id like the blade to be no longer than 4.5"

3)Id like the blade to be no less than 3"
It will mostly be used as my hiking knife (i dont like carrying a folder as much as I find sand and grime get in the blade(I hike and camp on sandy beeches).
Other notes:
I plan to wear it on my belt. When not hiking ill probably throw it in my bag just to have (although ill be carrying a folder.)

I plan on hiking the west coast trail this summer so this knife will be used then.
Using the knife for what knives are used for (basic cutting, etc) but it should be tough for emergencies.

So far the one knife that fits the bill is the Bark River Bravo I butt id love to see other suggestions. Thanks in advance

Rat cutlery has some fixed blades you may be interested in, also it sounds like the RC-4 or RC-3 would work.

wow, im seriously impressed with both suggestions. i have a RC-4 and am considering an activator. bark rivers are great knives, Benchmade makes great fixed blades, maybe a fixed griptilian or a nimravus....
i would buy another RAT knife in a heart beat.

You might also consider a custom. You can have one made to your specs and there are a lot of great makers on this forum whose knives routinely cost less than $200.

Bark River....... I just received my Bravo -1 in the mail today and wow it a nice knife. It could be a bit thick and not stainless but it looks like there is nothing this knife couldn't do..

Check out JK knives, made by BF member stomper. He should have his own subforum up and running soon, but he can also be found in WSS. I've been admiring his knives for a while now and plan to order one when finances allow. Everyone in WSS loves his knives though.

A custom is definitely a good route. Check out Dan Koster's work. He has a sub-forum here. For a production knife, RAT RC-3 or RC-4 for a fixed blade, or anything from the ZT line for a beefy folder.

look for a busse active duty...
new a little out of your price target, but if you find a used one...

3.5" blade, imo perfect for your intended uses.

thanks for all the responses guys. I looked over each of the knives.

I really like the active duty as well as the rat knives but I decided against them because they were difficult to get up here in Canada (shipping was ridiculus). Secondly im not a huge fan of the coatings. Otherwise perfect looking blades. I actually have a busse badger but I find it a little large so Im likely going to sell it in the future. Great knife but I find it to heavy and agitating when hiking.

Benchmade fixed are nice, but I have a 710 and wanted to try something new.

I like customs but I find them too difficult to get a hold of. The blades I want usually have long waiting lists and I am not a fan of waiting for 6 months to a year. May get one in the future, and have considered getting one several times (i really like doziers).

After a lot of research I did eventually decide to go with the Bravo 1. Hopefully it works out:). Ill give a review when I get it. The final deciding point for me was the price:)

Thanks again all.

You won't find a better knife than the Cabela's Alaskan (Buck) Vanguard. It's an astounding knife value. It sports a 4-inch S30V blade and feels great in the hand. It also comes with a rubber grip or a rosewood grip, and the price is only a hundred dollars.

knives of alaska alpha wolf.. my christmas present that wasn't. D2 or S30V.. your pick. very nice little camp knife, could skin something or slice 'maters.. 4" blade, about, but trim and light..

and i've got RAT-3's in D2, and AF pilots survival knives, and neither one is as handy as the Alpha Wolf. An under-appreciated blade..

Well, if your on sandy beaches. Maybe you should look at the spyderco aqua salt with a rust free h1 blade. Or a fallkniven pilot.

If your folders get gunked up you should look at the ZT 0500, is has these seals so your knife WILL lock covered in sand and mudd. Seals use them.

Yes, but swamp rat knife works has their Hairy Carry for sale still. They are at the company store still in 3.5" 154cm with G10 for under $150. You can also find them used on the Busse knife exchange (goto the busse sub forum then click the link toward the top of the page).

You won't be disappointed with the Bravo-1, good choice! It's my favorite so far. The RAT RC-4 and Fallkniven F1 are great too.

I wish they were made of SR101...
