I have my typhoon, i have my Camillus Heat, but neither i feel safe carrying around becuase of the questional legality. So i am looking for a good folder and i thought you guys could help me.

The more of these features it includes, the better.

Blade 4in +

Edge doesnt matter, combo/plain, preferrably tanto but i know thats a limiter.

EASY to open with one hand. Not a really tight one. But not too loose.

Durable handle, patten doesnt matter. No plastic.

And the steel must be pretty hard, i dont want to have to sharpen frequetly.

And thats about it. Thanks to anyone who chooses to help me out.

If you like wood handles with titanium liners check out a Lone Wolf T2. Tough & solid knife, but light in weight thanks to all the titanium parts. s30v flat ground blade slices like a laser. Blade just under 4 inches. Very easy to open with the stud, very smooth. The handle is the most comfortable of any folding knife I have had the pleasure to hold.

For a great price and great service:

Since you want a knife larger than four inches I would suggest a Cuda Max. It seems to fit all of your criteria.

The Benchmade Stryker sounds like something you might like.
154CM Steel G-10 Handles 3.8" Tanto blade. Available in plain or combo edge.
(72 bucks at New Graham knives)

I am probally bias on this one being a new owner of mine .. But man this CRKT M16-04 is sha`weeet!
AUS-8 plain edge, Tanto with T-6 aluminum scales and opens like butter with the Carson Flipper! And razor sharp.. have a bald spot on my arm to prove it.. it rides like a dream clipped in my front pocket.. And when open the blade is ever present. This is my pick until I find something better.. but man I love this knife!

You put the legality of Camillus Heat in question and want a 4inch blade at the same time. Is it the assisted openning feature? Heat can be converted to manual within one minute which I did with mine.
But if you want a new knife then I'd go with Military which is a hell of a knife for the money... Or, if your budget allows, Lone Wolf T-2 as WadeF advised - I haven't handled the T-2 but it looks very solid and stout.

I agree that the CRKT M16 sounds like it fits your desires.

Happy hunting,
Allen.

yes, its the assisted opening that makes me feel uncomfertable carrying it. The 4"+ is because of my various hobbies that require a large knife. And tho i love the heat for its assisted opening feature, the handle feels pretty cheap.

Thanks for all the responses, im gonna get going on looking into everything you guys suggested.

EDIT: The crkt looks like a perfect knife! Wow, great suggestion. My question is, how does the "Carson flipper" work? Is it like an assisted opener, or is it something to push the blade out far enough for you to swing the blade out? And is it loose or a tight fit when locked in? (ie will i have a hard time getting it out with me' weak little thumbs?)

I would first check out the local law for blade length & then check out your state law on Blade Length. Saint Louis Missouri has 3 inches max & St. Louis County has 3.5 max. This was 5 years ago when I last checked. Hope this helps.!

The flipper is used with the index finger and you flick it and the blade opens. Depending on how hard ya flip it will determin if it will require an additional wave to get it to lock up .. and when this thing is engaged it is almost fixed blade tight.. or might as well be .. this one I have does not have the extra LAWKS Safety feature.. But the newer ones do and add even more safety when the blade is locked open by putting a wedge in the way of the lock bar to keep it from accidently opening by means of a tab on the bridge of the new knifes you activate with the tip of your finger to both engage it and disengage it.. I love this knife.. the new ones come in either titanium CRKT BIG DOG.. or Zytel scales on the handle CRKT M16-14Z .. or Special Forces models.. they have all kinds of these bigger type M16's the Zytel models come with a milder blade steel being AUS-6 and the price reflects this..

I'd also recommend the CRKT M16. Great knife, great price, and it fits all your criteria. The quality is surprisingly good for the price and the AUS8 blade holds an edge pretty well. The Carson Flipper is also very nice, it's my favorite opening method, even though I hear that AXIS lock is OK too. :p
