So he's looking at something like this but wants to know about the quality. http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Tatang,4,35.htm

Blade length: 8.600”/218 mm
• Overall length: 13.500”/343 mm
• Blade material: 1085C high-carbon tool steel
• Handle material: Thermoplastic rubber with textured panels

I've never heard of Blackhawk myself, anybody know anything about it?
He wants that shape specifically, double edge, spear/drop point, forward swept handle, medium/large overall size. No preference on serrated/non, handle material, or coating.

Does anybody know any knife of a similar build but better quality?

Please and thank you.

I admit I don't know much about Blackhawk. There is a search function in the upper right corner. Try there first.

Only 2 come to mind offhand...

Benchmade Nimravus 140 although not a true double edge.
Spyderco Schempp Rock double edge?

Blackhawk is a HUGE maker of tacticool gear.

I had a Kalista, which was a fantastic Blackhawk knife designed by Michael Janich.

Just read the description, and google search the designer, steel types etc. and it's not hard to figure out that this is a good knife, but only if you want a purpose built weapon that can also function as a jungle tool.

Designed by edged-weapons expert Michael Janich, the Tatang employs the savage cutting power of a traditional Filipino barong in a leaner, more versatile package. When gripped at the rear of the pistol-grip-style handle, the weight-forward blade gives it tremendous reach and chopping power. Choking up on the subhilt shifts the balance back for more controlled cutting, trapping, and backcutting.

Thanks for all the replies.
Intended use: Cool looking tactical knife with some outdoor use. Hunting knife. He just want a big knife, 12" overall or above.
Budget: $100 and below

From what I gathered 1085 steel is pretty durable but doesn't hold an edge as well as 1095. I have no idea about the heat treatment though.
I spent a few hours last night searching for something similar but I wasn't able to find that overall shape in anything above 10". The handle shape was the most difficult to search for.

So the broaden the search I know he really likes karambits; he's also interested in kukris but is more of a tactical knife guy than a bushcraft guy. I know that's not exactly the trend on BF, but anything helps. The Spyderco Schempp Rock looks to be a good alternative but it's out of his price range.

The main features he's looking for is the size and the double edge and an overall forward swooping shape.
Here's a few that are kind of in the ballpark

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Get a Condor Kumunga and a couple files from Home Depot. Clamp that sucker down on a bench and reshape the top edge to make it more stabby. There you go. Combatbushctoraftsword.

You bring up a good point with grinding your own edge. What about knives of similar shape and size without double edges?

I only have experience with the blackhawk nightedge and really didnt like it honestly
It lasted about a year then i broke the grips
