I'm looking for a 3 3/4 to 4" closed single blade jack with nice looking bone or stag handles in carbon steel preferably, but a nice grade of stainless isn't out of the question.

Any ideas???

TLC,

I'm guessing that you already have the Queen Teardrop (Swell-End Jack)?

I saw you post that in the "barlow" thread the other day and it's one that I find attractive.

I guess that Scagel repro is a little too big for you??
4 5/8" closed with 1095 steel.

That ones high on the list, though I don't like the liner-lock on it a great deal, the way it sticks up.

waynorth, yeah the scagel's a bit big, looking for something more pocket friendly.

I know some friends have taken a dremel to that liner tab and said that it worked great. I may do the same when mine arrives.

Waynorth, who makes that Scagel repro?

Queen makes them, and Northwoods puts on some of the handles.

I felt the same way. I got one and sent it to Muskrat Man and had him take out the liner lock and install ebony scales (bare head). It turned out pretty nice.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a jack, or if it matches your criteria, but I have really been enjoying my Queen #11, D2, & amber carved stag bone. It is right at 4" closed.

Good hunting! :)

I don't know how much you want to spend, but this one comes in at 4" closed, and very pocketable...Cumberland still has them for about $150.

Queen/Dan Burke Rancher with Sambar Stag and BG-42 blade:

I have two--one for carry and one for display. It's a very nice EDC.

The Queen made Dan Burke Rancher is my edc pocket knife. Not to big...not to small and rides in my pocket very nicely.

TLC,

FWIW, I just received yesterday the Teardrop liner lock (Swell-End) in ACSB. Yowza, what a great looking knife!!!

I have the whittler, canoe, gunstock, mountain man and now this one in either CSB or ACSB and this one may be the nicest of the lot. (I used to prefer the CSB to the ACSB but now I'm really not so sure anymore...)

Not sure that the knife needed a liner lock since it has a very strong backspring, but it's a non issue. It's there but not in the way and it functions well enough.

Take a hard look at this one again if you get the opportunity.

Blues, thanks for the review, I am still pondering my choices, but the one is coming in high on the list.

I just got mine yesterday, too, in CSB. Love that look!

+1 on the strong backspring. I'll probably take a little while to get used to how this one works.

Gift to myself for graduating from my Master's program. Was looking for an appropriate toy, and found a pic of this. My wife and I sat there looking at it, going "ooh, pretty" for long enough that I decided that I was going to just get it.

Congrats on the accomplishment. Looks like you earned that nice little gift.
