I have a Buck 290 Rush, which is a spring assist. Its a great knife and all, but I am ready to upgrade. So, here are my requests for this knife

- $100-$140. The cheaper the better, while still maintaining quality
- Not made in China, Taiwan, etc.
- Has a very strong spring. I played with a BM 850. I would like a spring like that or stronger, if they make them.
- 3"+ blade. The bigger, the better/
- A heavier blade. It doesn't need to weigh a half pound, but I would prefer some heft to it.

Past that, I am open to suggestions.
So far, I have in mind the BM 850

Kershaw Blur is my favorite EDC, and the standard sandvik 14c28n blade is great, or you can upgrade to s30v or Elmax all for $100 or less.

The Kershaw knockout is another solid option, sandvik ELMAX. Sandvik being the cheaper.

Made in the USA

What do you think of the spring on it?

The Blur snaps open. I own quite a few of 'em, 3 in my regular edc rotation,
Elmax, standard OD green, standard combo edge

and all work flawless; imo Kershaw's speedsafe assist is one of (if not the) best in the biz. A bunch of Blurs, my wife has a leek, and even a china made thermite and tremor, and all their assisted actions work great.

Like I said, to date, it's not #2 or 3, it is my favorite knife EDC.

Good to know. I will put it on my list of consideration then. Thanks much.

+1 on the Blur. I'm new around here but I have been using a Blur combo edge for about 2 years. Still makes me smile every time it snaps open.

I'll second the Kershaw Knockout, I've got one and it's part my EDC rotation, slim, light, great quick assisted open blade

But I don;t think you can go wrong with another suggestion that I saw here which is the Zero Tolerance 0566

The Blur uses a strong torsion bar spring to snap open the blade. Works great every time. Great knive, great value.

I would rule out an auto....look at the new kershaw launch series...can be had for around 100 bucks

A lot of love for the Kershaws, it seems. We have a sports store out here that has a bunch of different Kershaws. I guess I will have to go get a feel for some?

What do you all think of the Leek? How strong is the spring on it?

Do you own one? If so, what do you think of the spring in it?
I do. I've carried it for the last 2 months almost everyday and absolutely love it. The spring is definitely robust. I haven't had any problems with the speedsafe. I know it doesn't have the fanciest steel but I'm fine with 420hc anyway and it's made in the USA. I'm extremely happy with it and at the price it's a steal.

When it comes to assisted openers the only two companies I even consider are kershaw and ZT.
