Help me find my perfect neck knife

Hi all, I'm trying to find "the perfect" neck knife for myself. I already own 2 CRKT STIFF KISS ones but they rust when I carry them on my bare skin and also I don't find the Tanto point and chisel sharpening to my liking.
I'm not looking for a tactical knife I'm looking for a nice 6" - 7" package that has a nice blade 3" - 4" blade that can just as well cut an apple, slice an onion, cut a rope or whittle at a piece of wood.
I like Kydex sheaths with a rare earth magnet in it to hold the blade and I absolutely detest bead blasting and all kind of black "tactical" coatings. The bead blasting just increasing the possibility of rust forming on the exposed knife parts, a nice satin polish on the ATS34 or BG42 blade is what I'm looking for.
Last but not least it must be affordable for me, so $100 is really the maximum for me, I'm not in the "my 2 decorated Sebenza's arrive tomorrow" class. I saw a very nice neckknife in a gunshop in Holland, it was a Taiwan made piece with bead blasting, the blade already rusting and had a fake kydex sheath with a rare earth magnet, the knife model however was just about perfect with nice thin grey micarta gripplates, it cost only $25!. If it had been made of 440C or Ats34 I would gladly have payed triple the price.
I would very much like it if you could either include pictures or point me to some websites.

Try this connection: http://www.tah-usa.net/raker/page3.html.

BF member, Blues, is into neck knives big time. His is testing Raker's "Lil Blue." If you want rust resiliency, you'll want the ATS34 version. But I would coat it with tuff cloth, or rust free, every so often anyway for a preventive measure.

You may also want to check on Newt Livesay's neck knives. They are pretty affordable. Not sure he carry ATS34. One of his fans can confirm that.

Not too long ago I went through the same process - which one is the best?? I am still not able to answer the question.

I decided to buy Boker Specialist and I have not regreted my decision. Reasonable price (78.00 USD), good steel (440C) excellent MCS sheath. It is a little bit too heavy for neck carry - but I do not mind.

Then I bought Boyer Multicarry Mini Tanto - it looked nice on the web site. Since I do not live in USA it was my only source of info. In real - the knife is much bigger then it seems to be, also the kydex sheath was a bit disappointment. Uneven grind lines on top of it and the knife is for sale.

IMO the best neck knife for me would be Crawford neck knife (tanto) if it was not bead blasted.

How about a Boker Specialist with the spear point blade? It has 440C steel, about a 4 inch blade, kydex and magnets, multi carry ability. Plus you can get one with a very non tactical looking wood handle slabs, It's not very tactical at all IMO, as it lacks proper finger protection. Veel succes met je keuze!

Bagherra, My favorite neck knife is the Emerson La Griffe, but of course this does not fill your bill. I think what you need is the crawford neck knife. I ordered 2 from about a month ago and I think thay are great. They are about 6 inches long overall and do not print at all under my shirt. They come in either tanto or regular clip blade. I got both of mine in the clip blade, kind if a drop clip blade. They have a finger cut out and holes drilled in the hande in a very nice pattern which also makes the knife lighter. The knife comes in ats 34 steel and even though mine are bead blasted, I am sure Pat would polish one for you. He is very good to talk to and work with. He made a small modification in both of mine and did not charge me any extra. It also come with the best kydex neck sheath That I have ever had. Very small, no sharp corners, and a stainless chain. Excellent blade retention and still easy to get out. All this and the price? $85.00 .
this could be the one you need.

Hello Post, youve made me curious and I've been trying to find Mr. Crawfords Website but only found some site's that sell his knives. Where can I contact Mr. Crawford?
I like the droppointish knife I saw but have found no specification about it.

Just flipped thru and the header caught my eye. I've been enjoying cutting and grinding out a few neck knives for myself.....too slow to consider doing it for $$. I have had no problem using kydex for a fine neck carry w/o any magnets. Why are magnets needed. No way does blade want to come out on its own. Mine are smallish though, only bout 5-6" total. Been making kydex neck holsters for the naa .22, no magnets needed there either. Just a bit of effort to get the 'right' fit for good retention yet a good release.

no bladesmith here, ....yet.

I've recently encountered the Emerson La Griffe which was pretty cool. My problem was that after having not had anything around my neck the last oh 7 years it wasn't for me. Check that out, but also I have a custom knife making compadre who has recently started on neck knives. He is very reasonably priced and one of his blades went on the bladeforum auctions and did VERY well.
If you mail tell him Quentin sent you. Thanks Darth Q. steeldust5@aol.com

I've got the PERFECT "neck knife." I call it the Leviathan. Its a 27" khukuri used for decapitating! Well at least that's what it was designed for, although it hasn't seen any necks since I've had it.

Jim,

Go to the REKAT forum and you'll find plenty of positive feedback. I think these knives are a great buy with one of the best multicarry sheaths I've seen. Problem is getting a hold of one or two. REKAT is no longer producing them. They think the market is saturated.

Aren`t both the REKAT neck knives available through the Bladeforums.com store? I thought they were the October knife offering.

Steve,

Seems the "knives of the month" offerrings are off. Not enough responses to make it worthwhile. I don't blame Mike and Spark in pulling back. The idea is to generate some income to support this site. If it doesn't do that...

Hopefully, REKAT will reconsider their decision. You can post in the REKAT thread to reconsider along with other REKAT neck knife fans. These knives are/were among the best buys for this category.

Go post in the REKAT Forums "Neck Knife Petition" thread to try to get REKAT to continue selling the Fang and/or UNK. In a world dominated by "tactical" folders, REKAT wants to move exclusively to said "tactical" folders, and drop their excellent neck knives! Speak up, everyone who wants the REKAT neck knives to continue!!

Thanks sing. Wondered why I hadn't seen the credit card billing yet.
