I ownded my EDC for about 2 wks before I started carrying it and have carried it clipped in my lf pocket ever since until about a wk ago. I caught the pocket clip on something and bent it. I've searched every tool box and kit I have and can't find a bit to fit the screws. I slipped a wedge under it and got it back down but it's still not tight. It slides up out of my pocket. I don't feel dressed without it. What size tip does it use and where can I find one. PLEASE HELP......

Thanks Dean

Dude, my 154CM EDC uses Torx type screws to hold the pocket clip. It's a #6 bit and it's the smallest torx bit in my Benchmade Blue Box. You can probably get one at a hardware store too. I also have one that I got from Sears--and if I'm not mistaken, it's the same size screws that Nokia uses on some of their phones.

tape a quarter to it.
got it?
toss it into the woods.

someday, someone will come across it and say, hey! i found a quarter!

Seriously,go to wal-mart or sears, and look for torx drivers. i own a few different types and sizes.
also, while your at it,get a metric and standard set of hex drivers too.

remove the clip (I dont own an EDC,but assume from the above post that it uses torx screws), then tape the screw hole end of the clip up so you dont scratch it. put the taped portion in a vice,or just vice grips. bend it to how you like it,and re-attach.

or...
e-mail will or someone at camillus. im sure they would be more than willing to help you out.

The smallest bit I can find is a #10. I've checked the Walmart and all of the local hardware stores and even Radioshack. I'll try Sears.

The Benchmade kit is well worth the money. they are very economical and are most certainly a must have for us knife knuts.

i think the benchmade kit is a little over priced. torx kits are overpriced, there are no 'cheap' sets. i bought a three screwdriver torx set for close to 15 dollars here, about 7.50 for you americans. it has to do with supply and demand, not many people use torx heads, so they go up in price.

you need torx screws for the clip, hex for the overall frame of the EDC. try an electronics store for smaller heads, apparantly, torx screws are sometimes used inside computers and mobile phones. never seen them in computers though............

Yeah, I did have some trouble finding the T-6 size early on, but managed to find it at Sears. The Blue Box comes in pretty handy since Benchmade is (obviously) not the only company that uses torx heads. Chances are that most knives will have at least one or two torx heads--pivot, scales, clip, thumb stud, etc. so it's always good to have a set.

Got my EDC back. My son found a t-6 bit today and I got my clip back in shape. Thanks for your help..........

3nails, so where did your son find it, or was it just on loan?

I was going to give up and order the Benchmade set, but good things come from visiting your in-laws :D

One of the largest Sears tool sections (per the sales person) is in Sarasota, FL. I found a driver and numerous bits (including the infamous T-6) on sale and got it. I can always use the bits, and got some I did not have, so I guess it was worth the $15 sale price. Of course in the meantime, I did not carry the EDC.

Personally, a better fix might be for Camillus to raise the price 50 cents or a dollar and include one, or change to something more common. The only part of the design I don't like.

Camillus, are you listening? I don't mean to be obnoxious, but I do feel it is a design defect to attach something, to an EDC nonetheless, that may occasionally need servicing, with a screw hardly anyone has the tools to remove. Sure Camillus is a great company and would happily take care of this, but I bet they don't want to be mailing back the knife to me, anymore than I want to mail it to them in the first place. Besides, why does Camillus want to give Benchmade so much free advertising?

I did see in a long ago post for those who are still seeking the holy grail, errrh...I mean T6 driver, that higher quality ones are available on the internet that are less likely to round off.

My son found a set of torx drivers at a larger wally world. Not the best quality but it got my EDC back on track and back on my pocket. I still plan to find a better set. I have several knives which use the t-8 bits.

Again thanks to all replies. I really didn't know what to look for.

Thanks Dean

I think it's just one of those trends that someone started and everyone else just followed along. I remember the first time I bought a Benchmade with Torx screws and I thought "what the hell is that?" Then all of a sudden everyone was using them. I don't really mind the Torx too much since it has gotten a lot more common, but I don't like it when more than one type of screw is used--like how the EDC uses allen type screws and Torx type. There probably is some reason behind it, but I don't know what it is.

After years of using allen screws in the printing industry, I've come to love torx. They just seem to strip out less often. I can live with allen on the larger screws, but much prefer torx on the really small stuff.

To tell you the truth, I would personally prefer it if the EDC's went to all-torx construction. I find torx the easiest since I have the Benchmade blue torx kit. For just $15 U.S. it's a great buy and very useful. I also find torx screws to be far less prone to stripping and just easy to deal with overall.

Now that I have the drivers, it is nice to know there might be a benefit to the Torx pattern.

In any event I clipped on my EDC over the weekend and now the clip is sprung again, so I will be getting some more use out of the T6.

I do not have any idea how it gets sprung. I do not recall hitting anything this time, either. Perhaps bending and stretching it out of position in the pocket pulls the clip out of position. In other words, the EDC is clipped to my jeans pocket, I bend, the knife moves, and the clip goes the other way with the pocket??? No idea. The EDC seems to fit in the pocket better than many, so I really don't know the answer.

[I have this vision of Will following me around with a video camera for research purposes....and later while reviewing the tape, going Ah-Hah!, here it is, when you sat down at the kitchen table, you can see it getting caught on the arm of the chair...... This is the main place I can think of that it might get caught, but it is hard resin, so I would think I would notice, on the other hand......]

When it is tight the grooves in the clip aid in retention
