I was looking at the Buck/Strider display in my local blade store and in it there was a knife that I had not seen before. All it it said on the blade was Buck on one side, ATS-34 on the other.

It was very close, if not exactly, the same size and shape of a Gerber Evo Jr. but with only three oval cutouts and textured G-10 scales and Strider sturdiness. Plunge lock and thumbstuds, BTW.

I am new to collecting knives, so this may be an older style prior to the 881 or something. I know this shop has a lot of older stuff in it.

It was selling for $104, which I felt was a little too much.

Do you know any more about it? Was the price right?

Thanks,
Nick

Buck Mini TacLite, BU-886BK. I've never priced them, but a quick look around the net indicates that your local price may be a bit high. But it is a B&M store and if I'm not mistaken, the TacLite is discontinued.

Yea, the taclite has been discontinued, but it is a great knife. I see them occasionally go for $50.00-$60.00 at knife and gun shows here in central Florida. The original retail was $110.00, so $104.00 is a bit high. Also, it is not a Strider collaboration. Hope that helps, Jim

I picked one up a few weeks ago for $50 shipped. It's a great mini "tactical folder". But it is not a plunge lock, it's a liner lock. The big button releases the lock by pushing the liner aside. ATS-34, G-10, bronze washers, innovative lock release - hard to go wrong with this one but you can do much better than $104. It's a shame Buck discontinued it.

That's it. Thanks guys. I just found it at onestopknifeshop for $75.

Stevekt... Where did you find it for $50?

Wow. I just looked up the Gerber Evo Jr. I don't know what came first but it seems both Buck and Gerber have been browsing the CRKT catalog. I always wondered if the similarity to the M-16 had a factor in Buck discontinuing the Taclite and Mini-Taclite.

Is there an M-16 as small as the mini taclite (3.5" handle)?

The M16-13, for example, has a 3.5" blade, while the M16 Compact EDCs' blades are only 3" long.
