Was at a local gun/knife show and got a sharpening stone they guy said was "just fresh from the quarry in Arkansas" I thought it was a black hard but its not. I have two very old black hards and both are translucent. You can see light passing through the stone along the edge. The mystery stone is a natural stone that opaque like a white ark stone but its black! Stone is a tad coarser than the older black hards. However it puts a super sharp edge on the blade.I love this stone. Its a natural stone with some very small lighter colored "grain" in it. At first glance however it looks like a older black hard. Its very dark. Anyone know anything about these new stones out of Arkansas? The seller said he knew the man that owned the quarry. It just doesn't seem to fit the "Washita/soft white/hard white/black hard lineup I'm familier with. BillyR

I have a few of those. I would say they are "medium hard." Aggressive cutting, yet polished edge.

I found a place on e-bay and purchased a set of 4 that included a primative translucent. They didn't come cheap, but I love them.
