Help me identify a Gerber

I had a friend some years back that owned a Gerber that I'd like to find.

The blade was about 8" or so long, double-edged and was coated black. The handle was wrapped in green 550 cord (didn't appear there was anything but metal underneath-looked factory) and the knife had a camo-colored sheath. He said the knife was gift from his dad around 1990 before he went into the Army so I figure it was produced around that time.

I've never seen another Gerber like it, but I'm POSITIVE it was a Gerber. It did not have the MkII's profile. I lost contact with this friend about eight years ago so I can't get a picture of the knife.

Does anyone own or have they seen a knife like this?

Sounds like the larger version of the below knife (Gerber Guardian)

The wrapped in green cord thingy seemed odd enough to be something from Gerber.
Still, I'ld have to admit there are things still yet undiscovered!
Check it out

did it look like the above knife on the left, with od green paracord wrapped around it?

i dont think gerber ever cord wrapped handles, not ever FWIW, so i doubt its a gerber, i bet it was one of the EK knives some look like what ya are describing.

look at www.ekknife.com/knives.html and see if they look familiar..........scroll down to the marine raider one, they make a few cord wrapped ones and have for quite a while now.

I was thinking the same thing as boring. It was probably wrapped by a previous owner

just wrapping the std gerber handles would be, well, kinda odd looking imho lol.

boring,

Does the larger knife in your picture have a painted metal handle? That could be it!

He must have had someone do one hell of a job wrapping it with paracord since it REALLY looked like it came from the factory that way.

What model is that and what blade material did they use? Where can I find one?

Sounds like the standard Gerber Guardian 2 but with the camo version's sheath

Edited to added: Oops, I thought you had asked if it had a black metal handle, so forget what I said earlier

the larger of the two is the gerber guardian 2. the handle is painted metal. not sure on the blade steel. gerber discontinued them a while back so your best bet is a vintage knife dealer or ebay. thier was also a black handled version.
