I put this on the SOG group, but I know there are some big SOG fans here and I'm trying to get some info as quickly as possible, so sorry for the double post.

I have a chance to buy a SOG fixed blade. Guy says he bought it 10-15 years ago. It looks, basically, like the Sog Tech but has no white washers...just a plain kraton handle (looks just like the one on my old Tiger Shark). Same blade configuration, but has a very nice polish, and brass guard. Blade is exactly 6". I remember liking this knife and was disappointed when they stopped making it, but can't remember what they called it. If you know what it is, I'd like to see a webpage with a picture and would like to know the steel used. thanks for any info. Oh.....it is almost like new, came (or comes with) a cordura sheath.....and the guy wants $85.00 This sounds like a fair price to me......comments?

I have a few SOG's and like them. I believe they use plain old 440A for most of their knives including the Bowies, but I also heard that they have a proprietary process that makes it better than regular 440A. I don't know, but it does seem a cut above garden variety 440 to me. They also use AUS-8 in some of their knives like the Trident, which I really like, and it is basically 440A + Vanadium which makes it a better steel IMO. I am sure your knife isn't BG-42 like in the Recondo, especially as this is an older model.

I can't find anything on this model, but $85 seems like a very fair deal to me for a knife of this quality.

Regards,

Norm
