Help me identify the Cold Steel tanto

I recently picked up a Cold Steel Recon Tanto. It has all markings on one side and are as follows-
RECON TANTO
Cold Steel Carbon V
Made in USA
It also has a brass lanyard hole piece. I believe it’s an older model. Would love some input

Looks like some one cut a corner off the handle?

It’s pretty beat up. I got it for almost free. I am thinking about this knife being my first refinish project. Is that a bad idea if it’s a rare or old model? It’s pretty beat up

The Carbon V Recon Tanto ran from 1993-2006, but the fact that yours has all the markings on one side would suggest it's from pretty early in that run. Since the handle is already mangled I say go for it on the refinish.

Quickly threw this together based on catalog info...not planning to add any pics. Have included model numbers, blade steel, blade finish, and type of sheath. SRK: Introduced in 1990...I have a copy of the "New Products for 1990" flyer that announces it. Early models had markings on one side...

Not with original handles from the factory, as far as I know, they don't do that.

With it being in rough shape, I'd just rehandle it and make it a user.
