A friend of mine presented me with a balisong, and asked me to do a bit of research about it. I figured I would turn to the Balisong Forum here at bladeforums.com with a general description and see if anyone has any clues about this knife.
I'll start with the handles.
Brass, though not polished. Each handle has ten holes drilled in it, five per side, in the style of the Benchmade "skeleton" handles. The holes are chamfered in the same style. The latch is fairly typical of a balisong, with no latch gate. The pins are similar to those found on a Jaguar Classic, though flat, not rounded off. No taper, slightly rounded. No washers between the handles and the blade, either.
Now onto the blade.
Bowie-style, but with little belly at all. Edge is mostly worn off, no grind lines. There is a kick near the ricasso. The blade is serrated in the style of a steak knife, a little more than a third of the blade. On the tang, front side:
SKGF [over] 440 Stainless.
BACK:
Mfg. in [over] Japan. Int'l [over] Headquarters [over] U.S.A.
The horns are not typical of a Benchmade. The horn opposite the blade is a bottle opener, the one nearest the blade is a flat-screwdriver. Front of the blade is inked "Golden Forge". Tang pin is small and solid, but bent on one direction, probably from the force of using the bottle opener-horn.
The date of manufacture is circa 1992
If anyone out there can help me identify this strange balisong, I'd be greatful.
