Well guys,

Need some feedback to help me identify this folder and maybe some value & history about it.

Description:

Blade length : approx. 2.5"
Steel : not known (with the word Butcher, Sheffield, England
printed on the blade)
Type : Slip joint (non-locking)
Handle : Black FRN type material
Blades : 1 awl approx. 2.75", 1 main blade 2.5" sheepfoot plain
edge, 1 combo can opener + bottle opener (main blade +
combo opener are on one side and the large awl on the
other)
History : Was standard issue to the Malaysian few-forces (sort
of anti-communist para-military police forces that
were active during the 1957-1964 communist up-
rising in Malaysia and the Indonesia-Malaysia
confrotation in the same period).
Its my dad's who serve in the forces for 13 years
along with some British SAS troops.

Any feed.back will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Bob, you might have better luck posting this on the Bernard Levine knife identification forum. It's just below the Randall forum in the general section, good luck.

I do not know this particular knife, but according to the second edition of Bernard's book, Butcher made knives in Sheffield between around 1819 and 1947. They are very collectable and have a high value. The fact that this knife was being given to the Malaysian military aas late as 1964 and the company stopped making knives in 1947 kind of makes one wonder. As was recommended above, you should post this in the Bernard Levine forum and see what they have to say over there.

It's probably a Wade & Butcher British navy issued folder. The awl is really a Marlin spike. These are quite common, check Ebay for current values.

HTH:)!

Thanks guys for the info, great help ...
btw Bob Bowie, you're right ... just check again and its "Wade & Butcher" printed on the blade.

Shall post on the identification forum and check ebay for value.

again Bob Bowie what's a Marlin spike ???
