A friend from Taiwan gave me this knife....it has water buffalo handles and other than havings a classic banana shape, with no lock, I don't know much about it...anyone familar with it?

I don't know if any of them have been sold over here. It's a traditional Chinese style, and Bob Luim designed one like it for Spyderco, a nice little liner lock. There is a Paul Chen Hanwei model of the same style, the Quandong folder, with a button lock.

Does that blade have a hamon? As I look at the second picture I see what looks like either a hamon or the demarcation line on a clad blade.
It's a very nice looking knife at any rate and that blade's profile is very attractive. I have a Cold Steel Twistmaster with that same blade profile. It works well at all utility tasks I throw at it.
