i have a puma knife that's made of 105/RC, now i'm unfamiliar with German steel, can someone please tell me what this steel is compreable to?

thanks

Actually Puma uses D1.4 in their knife blades hardened to 57-59 RC. (I have no clue why they mark the blade as stainless 105RC. Perhaps they are trying to confuse novice knife buyers with an absurdly high Rockwell hardness. )

Here's a steel chart from AG Russell so you can compare D1.4 to other steels.

If you have any other Puma questions you might try a great site called PUMA ONLY... http://www.pumaonly.com/

Good luck.

thanks for the info. i did a little research on my own, I have a Puma Tac 1 made in 2000, however the laser stamp looks different from the one on puma's official web site.

what gives? are there fake pumas about? the one on their web site have big lettering and says "puma tac 1 handmade germany" blablabla

but mine only says Puma tac 1 germany 105/rc and the size of the stamp is much smaller.

I know puma have another line called Puma IP, but those blades are usually stamped IP on it, does anyone know as to why they look different? I see many puma blades that look just like mine on ebay.

If I'm not mistaken the 105/RC means two different things. Puma used to stamp a five digit date code on their knives but have stopped doing so in recent years. The 105, I believe is Puma's new way to date code their knives. In this case 105 means the knife was made in 2005. The RC, means that the knife has been Rockwell tested. I could be wrong about this especially if you bought the knife before 2005, LOL. If anybody has a better explanation I'd love to hear it. Thanks
