Hey guys, pretty new to this forum, and I have a question regarding a newly obtained tool.

I own many other old axes, hatchets, picks, adzes etc. of many shapes and forms, but I have never seen anything like this tool. It was given to me by my uncle whom found it in his shed and had no idea where it came from or what it was. I have done some research on it to no avail so here I am looking for your expertise.

The blade measures 16-1/4" with a 16" handle, and unlike a sickle/scythe the sharp edge of the blade faces "up" away from handle. At first I thought maybe the handle was on backwards since the handle is easily removable, however as you can see in the pictures both the handle and the eye of the tool is tapered so the handle really only fits nicely one way. Also to note the edge is convex, aka sharpened on both sides not just one.

Thanks for any/all input, I look forward to finding out what this thing is.

Wow, that was quicker and easier than I was expecting, thanks! I'm now researching more about the froe, and my uncle will be glad to know what it's called and what it's for. Thanks again for your speedy response!
