Hi guys, my buddy has this Pipe hawk looking axe that he bought a long time ago at a swap meet or something, but we can't figure out who made it.

It's a functional axe

So if you can help us figure out who makes/made it and if they still make it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well crazy cow doesn't have it, but I've been looking for some time and I haven't been able to find something even similar to this particular axe, wholesale or otherwise.

WOW! thanks for linking me there, they have a lot of axes I want badly. But only one that looks 'close' to the axe in question.

No I think it's an actual axe with a completely solid head. I asked him earlier, I'll post once I hear back from him.

At first glance it kinda reminds me of the "Fancy" pipe hawk head from R E Davis, but after checking, it doesn't quite match...

Is the whole back of the poll solid steel, or does it have a cavity for a pipe bowl & was just never drilled out for smoking?

The heads from RE Davis are inexpensive and do require some work (since they are cast). They offer several styles and you can choose from brass or different carbon steel hardnesses. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the cast when I first got it, but I have seen some finished ones and they turned out very nice.

I will have to look (I may still have it I am a pack rat)but I saw this hawk once in the US CAV catalog years ago I remember it saying that the heads where both stainless (440) and diff. heat treated .Sorry I can`t remember more about it other than that I wanted one badly.
