I picked this squad leader up, and I really like it. I know it wouldn't suit everyone's purposes or be everyone's cup of tea, but it works for me. HOWEVER, that being said, I don't like the smooth handlle and I'd like to make that typical finger groove that begins where the left side, when facing the spine, scale is and points back towards the butt. I don't know what that's called, but I'd like that slight indentation on this knife. I'm a skilled craftsman, but I don't work with knives and I don't have a large belt sander like knife maker's use. I have a dremel and a 4" porter cable belt sander and other's that are under that width as well.
How would people suggest that I get a better texture on the micarta grips, and get that groove made. I will deal with the scratches on the pins somehow, or just leave them as scratches. This knife is never going to be a sage queen, it's a user.
I'd also like it to have the type of Jimping that is on my Boker Vox Rold, but that's another story. I'm in Santa Fe, NM btw.
And yes, I get it if it doesn't work for you, so "Buy another knife" is not a necessary comment to post.
