I have been looking into to getting a sog huntspoint boning knife as an every day carry knife because I want a small fixed blade knife to carry. I want to know if the 0.13 inch blade thickness is too thin for my purpose. Please give all your thoughts and comments. Thanks

I think people underestimate thin knives. Personally, I like thin knives more. They cut better, and are plenty tough.

Just looked the sog up, seems a little expensive for what it is, but I might be a little biased against sog.

If you want a thicker knife, the becker bk11/14/24 are .165 (taken from the ka-bar website for the 14). However, I'd have complete faith in a Mora.

The only SOG I've ever had, was the Fusion Fixation. It was a total piece of S#?T it broke the first day I used it, and I wasn't using it very hard. The HuntsPoint knife I saw on Amazon was going for $60 dollars in AUS-8 with GRN scales. For $95 you could buy a TOPS Viper Scout, in 1095 with micarta scales. I guess I am also a little biased against SOG.

I would take a look at the ESEE 3 and the Kabar Becker BK-14 or BK-24 as an EDC fixed blade. You will want to buy handles for the BK's if you go the Becker route. The knives aren't very practical for very hard use without a handle.

I think SOG knives are Okay. I have quite a few of their folders and a number of their fixed blades. I would stay away from their Fusion line in general. The Seal Pup Elite is a very good knife and I like the NW Ranger as well. I don't know how practical either of these would be as an EDC unless you live and work in the country.

If you want to step up a bit, take a look at the Fallkniven F1 as an EDC. Great knife! Bark River makes many smaller knives that would be very practical choices as well.

You'll be fine with the SOG for EDC if it's the knife you want.

As to blade thickness....check out a DPx/HEST. It's about a .19 thickness; D-2, Sleipner and other steels available in it.

Also, check the Grayman Duas. If you want bigger, their Satu.

Spyderco Tuff and LionSpy will have thicker blades too.

Good point.

Woah guys, going a little crazy with the recommendations. The OP is looking at an $80 MSRP knife. Now, for the street price of the SOG, you can get a superb ESEE Izula, in either stainless or carbon steel. If you want a more significant handle you can either pick up handles, wrap your own, or do something crazy like Plasti-Dip your own. Really, a wrap will be perfectly fine unless you plan on beating your knife like a rental car. Also if you Plasti-Dip the handles you will hate your life if you want to remove it.

Or you can get a cheap and awesome Mora. You will not find a better knife for their price if you want a tough fixed blade. Everybody loves them so much for good reason.

What does the OP mean by "SMALL fixed blade"? A 2 inch blade? ESEE Candiru. 3 inch (about) blade? ESEE Izula or Cold Steel Mini Pendleton Hunter. In between those? Becker Necker. Little over 3? Becker Eskabar. 3.5 inch? Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter. After that? Well....
