I would like a big and strong folder and I would like to know wich one you would choose between BM Barrage (large) and BM 710 D2? Wich one would be the stongest and most durable knife? Both are quite expensive so I don´t want to buy the weakest one. Has anyone ever had a problem with the assisted opening on the Barrage? Cheers!

im a 710 fanatic, owning 4 of them. i had a barrage and traded it off. as for the strenght of the 2 folders i'd say t hey are equal. the nod goes to the 710 if your truely looking for a "big folder". the nod would also go to the 710 for ease of carry because its thinner, thats a biggie for me and an edc piece. imo the nod goes to the 710 for quickness in deploying and getting back to the pocket as well. the axis assist is a bit slower to close for me at least, it takes too much dexterity for me to close it one handed. with the 710 i can axis flip it open, make my cut and axis flip it closed really quick.

A much as I like my Barrage there is one downside to it that you should be aware of. Being an assisted opener the spring is a very stout one. This makes for a very strong and very fast opening knife, but one-handed closing is just about out of the question. I prefer the Axis lock.

I too own 4 BM710's. Fantastic Knife!! I think it is a bellweather knife that everyone should have if they are a serious knife guy. I love the 4 inch blade and it comes in a small package. Don't hesitate here jump on the 710!!!

Get the 710, it's the quintessential Benchmade
.

+1 - I love my 710 it's ... well get one and you'll know. I bought a Barrage and returned it in trade. Big, clunky and it felt cheaply made. The 710 is the opposite.

Of the two choices you give I would take the 710. But if you want something a little more robust, look at the 520.

I wouldn't consider the 580 Barrage, but that's me... I am not so fond of assisted opening knives. The 710 is a delight, though. Now - if you want a 'big' knife, try to find a 610 Rukus or 615 mini-Rukus - shown below with my 710 D2. The Rukus family was dropped last year, so some searching may be required. S30V blades, too.

I was trying to decide between those 2 and a few other about a month or 2 ago. I ended up with the 710-D2. I liked the larger size and steel upgrade. And I don't regret my decision one bit. But then again, I probably would have been satisfied with any of the Benchmades on my list. :p

The 710 is one of those benchmark knifes that many other knives are compared to. It may not be the best knife out there, but its hard to beat. I have had mine for about 6 months now and still haven't found a knife I like more. I ECD it literally, I get out of bed put on my pants and put the knife in my pocket, everyday and would be lost without it

That 610 is very nice, G-10 & Micarta. Why don't I have one???

The Barrage opens quick but the handle has a cheap feel to it:

Barrage, is not as grippy as the 710, but I think if you're looking at pure strength, the Barrage is stronger. I still like the 710.

I will second the fella that suggested the HK 14205. Another awsome Benchmade. Here's a picture with both the HK and the 710. In fact, this is most of my BMs:
