i saw a sweet little kit that looked like it would cost nothing to build on here.

it was a picture of a nalgene bottle or possible a stainless bottle that sat down inside a metal can looked like a soup can and then he had a bunch of little kit inside it. i think a sak and fire starting stuff. it looked decent and pretty in expensive. anyone know the picture and list i am talking about.

Basically, you can get everything you need from the vendor mentioned several times in the thread above. I already had the 10x4 maxpedition bottle holder and gsi ss cup, I just ordered the ss bottle and a cocoon with a gen purpose pouch, braided a para cord shoulder strap, filled it up and I am ready to go.
 
these are all great kits. but this one was just a simple little kit from what i could tell. it looked like a cambell's soup can around a bottle and then most the kit was sitting inside it. i am trying to build this for my brother who likes to camp but don't have alot of cash to spend on it right now. i just saw it in a recent thread but now i can't find it anywhere. keep the idea's coming though they are all great kits and i may have to go this route for myself.
 
Revolver. That's pretty damn close and will work perfectly for what I wanna build. I still know I saw one this forum too though.

Again that will work perfectly and I really appreciate everyones help. My google foo is weak

Go to REI, Academy, Dick's, wherever and take a look at the "Survival in a Bottle" kits. They come in a variety of flavors, but contain extraordinarily crappy gear. I would suggest using the gear list as a starter.

They are based on a Nalgene-type bottle and you can get the stainless cup at any outdoor retailer.

ETA: what all do you want to have in this kit? Most of the stuff you could easily pick up anywhere and toss in a bottle. jwilliams' thread, posted earlier, is a good start.
 
yeah i will have to check out the local stores. and again thanks everyone for the responses. he is just getting in to back packing and camping...(me i been in to for years and especially the last 6 years army light infantry so i did a lot of it. lol with alot shittier gear than what most people use. i am just trying to throw a little kit together to get him started and he can upgrade from there to much better stuff. my main problem is he is going out camping w/ not much kit and if he did get lost or something i just want him to be semi safe


i am thinking that kit w/ fire steel and a bic w/ some cotton balls or dryer lint soaked in pj. along w/ one of the emergency blankets, a small FAK , A SAK, a large trash bag and some regular zip lock bags. maybe some other little stuff i have laying around. i don't have a lot of money as all my bills and on top paying for the old lady to go to school and not being able to work. just trying to do what i can to keep him a little safe as he is one of those that could never happen to me kind of folks and is my older brother so he doesn't want advice from me lol.

so i want something light that he can just throw in his kit and basically forget until he needs it.
