Many years ago, there was an article published about a custom knife maker who had forged a knife with a portion of a meteorite. If I recall, it was called the knife of two worlds.

Does anyone here recall the knife maker or the article?

Thanks

My google skills are weak this morning.

I've seen more than a few knife makers over the years who make knives out of meteorites. One that I recently researched is Larry Pogreba. He also makes custom guitars.

Bill Moran was the blade smith I was inquiring about. I recall seeing a photo of the knife on the cover of an annual knife publication.

Thank you for you assistance.

I believe it is OK to name those others without providing actual links.
You are probably right, but I think it is easier to just search for meteorite knives than to copy and paste a dozen names into the search engine.

Is there any difference in performance with the meteorite steel ? Hmm it seems that forging meteorite blades is quite far from a new practice and in general, not all the time of course, meteorite steel performs better than most steels (strong with better hardness) that were available up until the 19th century. Modern powder steels are better and likely modern steels of other kinds are better than forged meteorite. Meteorites have a high content of nickle and also contain cobalt and iron. They also have some sort of crystals that add to cutting ability. They can also be more rust resistant than what was available in the old days.

This is were a google search led me.

I’m no steel expert, but I suspect top of the line modern steels optimized for certain properties will outperform the meteorite steel. And if you had a meteorite knife, I suspect you’ll want to keep it as opposed to use it.
