Well, it's official, all of us Alaskan residents done got our permanent fund dividend checks. $1540 this year to be a lil' more precise. Now unfortunately, about $1,400 of that is already spoken for by them minor things like mortgage, utilities, car insurance etc., But if I beg the wife real hard an' pilfer my money just right I'll be able to "scratch that itch" by pickin' me up a new knife for $150 or so. Question is WHICH ONE??!!

Heres some I've considered:

BM Axis lock AFCK- basically a duty knife and would be carried along with my Emerson P-Sark to make up for it's weak areas. Axis lock, excellent blade, fast opening...seems like a LOT of knife for the money.

Sypderco Chinese Lum- Been droolin' over one of these since I first seen them, I LOVE the VG-10 steel, the flat grind, the color, and the aesthetics...been wantin' one for a LONG time now, and been trying to trade for one all year with no luck.

Camillus Maxx 5.5- First time I handled one of these the first thought in my head was "damn, this things like an XL Sebenza..." what more need I say?

Fallkniven- the frame lock folder they got out. looks plain, but VERY VERY practical. once again, my favorite steel..

Camillus Magnum camp or the nine inch Combat Utility knife- Not that I use a large knife very often, but the occassion does arise from time to time, and I currently do not own one. Well, I got a $10 Tramontina that works ridiculously well for what I paid, but it still aint no Camillus...

Benchmade Balisong- they're graceful, strong, fun and beautiful, an' I aint got one no more!

REKAT Pocket hobbit- my favorite "tactical" knife, an' I think my one is getting a bit woe out...

"Something from the Laci Szabo site" Just cuz they got some of the coolest looking knives in the world, and I love 'em all, even though $150 won't get me very far there...

something else? tell me what ya' think! make a suggestion! help me piss away my hard earned dividend!

:D

Get the Lum. It's a functional knife that double as a peice or lovely artwork too !!

Or get 2 BK7's and take over the world.

Thanks, it was hard earned... :D :D

Although there was the time that dividends were well over $2,000 (hightest dividends in history) we were p!ss broke, and my wife forgot to file our paperwork. It must be true love, I'm still married to her... :D

bali, bali, bali!!!!!

Not only a tool, but also a graceful toy :D (I know, I know, all our knives are toys  :p )

I have to admit that I've been eyeing the Lum for some time also. Follow your destiny!!!

BM AFCK, best bang for your buck.

I own an older AFCK with a titanium Liner Lock, best damn EDC I ever had.

Scratch your list and buy yourself a Spyderco Chinook!...You WON'T be sorry.:).

right, GM99? :D

Yup, but it IS pretty tough to fold-up a Tigershark and put it in the pocket.:D.:D.

I bought a model 700 Remington 300 Win Mag, scope, sling, etc... with my cash. My wife told me I couldn't buy a knife though. :( :grumpy: The remaining couple of hundred has to go in the bank. I guess i should be happy she okayed the gun. Yup, dividend time in Alaska fills up the stores with people lookin' to buy.

I'm partial to those axis locks on the Benchmades.

The Magnum Camp is a fine knife that has been discontinued. Get one now while you still can. I believe that there is a customized version of it available also, not sure on the details or price.

Another interesting choice to consider is the uluchet. After handling one some time ago, I picked one up. Very impressive. Lightweight, compact, strong, versatile slicer and chopper.

My votes for a balisong. :) tadgear's got the 46-01's for a song now! Both fun and practical.

Darnit all! a $1,500 dividend check, an' all ya' got was a lousy rifle, and not even a knife?! such cruelty!:D Congrats on the new rifle, sounds like a helluva nice purchase. 'specially with the future of ye ole dividends as sketchy as it be right now.

Been pondering alot on the choices, and payin' attention to y'alls opinions and it pretty much came down to three knives.

Thought long an' hard 'bout the CUDA Maxx. Big, solid, with a wickedly sharp blade, but...I can easily see myself starting to leave it at home cuz of the weight, gawking and the idiot questions. And I DO want a knife I can carry at work as well as at home. (the only reason I get away with carrying my P-SARK at work is that I was able to explain away all vile, scary features and make it sound like quite a benign lil' tactical knife to my supervisor, who has agreed not to notice it anymore)

Thought LOTS about the Chinese Lum, 'specially since I aint got a knife in that size range currently, and it would be a helluva nice EDC, and it can pull duty also, but...it is a tad small for my forepaws, and truth be known I'm kinda gettin' burnt out on liner-locks these days.

Which has brought me to ye ole BM axis lock AFCK. strong lock and blade, comfy handle, enough length for any folding knife kinda task, fast opening, and it should carry darn well.

So, in the next day or so I'm marching down to the knife shops and doing a few internet missions with the BM first and foremost in my mind and the Chinese Lum trailing not very far behind.
