I know that there is a million of these threads out there but I have been looking for a EDC for months and can't decide on anything with a huge selection of knifes out there you would think that I would be able to make up my mind more easily. Here are my requirements.

1.$100 range could be as high as $150
2.3” blade give or take a few 1/4
3.Can't be flicked open.

I prefer a spear point blade and a simple design. I have been thinking of the BM440 I like the blade shape but I don't like the scales much. I like the Mayo's blade shape but I don't like all the holes in the handle and the handle looks a bit bulky.
What do you guys suggest ? I have to add that I may not be against a slip joint.

Do you like frame locks, liner locks, lock backs, axis locks? Do you like assisted openers (AO)? I have a Buck/Mayo TNT, and it is very, very thin!! Excellent for EDC. But, it is above your price range. How about a Spyderco Paramilitary? It is an awesome knife, as is any Spyderco Product.

If you really want it not to flick open, you need to rule out two of the better locks out there--Axis and Compression--as well as some others. Might need to go with a stiff lockback. Maybe a Mini Manix with a tight pivot?

You can even flick large lockbacks open, sort of. Grab the blade, tip up, and snap your wrist so the handle drops down. I don't actually recommend doing this as it doesn't feel very secure and seems like a good way to end up with a cut.

Anyway I'm assuming this requirement is for legal reasons and I don't think you'll have issues with a lockback.

You are the "Knifemaster" and you have to ask for advice? We should all be asking you for advice. LOL!

Seriously though, just try a Spyderco Delica and go from there. It is a good all around knife that doesn't cost much ($40-50) but is high quality and has good steel (VG-10). Get one of those and then decide what you like or don't like about it and go from there.

Most knives including Buck 110's and spydercos can be flicked especially by someone in the customs dept that has nothing else to do all day. My suggestion would be a slip joint like a SAK or stockman pattern.

Thank you guys for your input but I forgot to add one thing to my list .. No Spyderco I simply hate their designs. If I could I would go for a Axis lock but I can't because of legal reasons. I would want to get in trouble because of a knife. I do have a SAK but it's time for a change. Does anyone have other suggestions? What do you guys think of the BM 440 I mentioned?
