Awright, so here's a trivia question for ya' What do the below listed knives all have in common:

Emerson Commander 02
Benchmade AFCK
Emerson Commander 03
Emerson P-Sark
Junglee Calypso
Benchmade Mini AFCK
Benchmade Stryker
Spyderco Military
Spyderco Starmate
CRKT M-16
and finally Lonewolf T-2 Ranger w/cocobolo handles

Give up yet? it's the long list of RACK FRACKIN' GAWDERN *&(*&%&!!!!!!!!! LINER LOCK KNIVES THAT HAVE FAILED ME!!!! (I'm sure there's a few I've forgotten)

So my beloved bestest friend in the whole wide world the Lonewolf T-2 is now wearing out, and I've only had IT since December!!! FRUSTRATION!!!!! I absolutely love this knife, I really, really do....it's got everything I want in a knife, except the bleepin'! liner lock!! I love the size, materials, design, flat grind, four inch blade, the lanyard hole, the pocket clip, lightweight, totally love the wood, the smoothness of the knife ,I love everything about it- But I've had it with liner locks!!! I'll send this one back to Lonewolf and have it repaired correctly, then pass it on to some other lucky new owner, but...

I need suggestions for a new EDC

Here's likes: wooden handles, flat grinds, pocket clips, one hand opening, drop points or bowie styles, 3.5 to 4 inch blade, reasonable price (prefer under $200) and obviously no more linerlocks. It looks like I'm gonna be in the department of framelocks, plunge locks, and lockbacks. (don't like Axis locks either, freakish I know) Bear in mind, the list isn't all inclusive, and I know that there's some things I may need to give up on in the name of compromise, but it's a start anyways...

What do y'all suggest? I'm not having much luck so far finding anything that trips my trigger.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

I think the Para Military is one of the sleepers out there in the knife world. It is just as capable in my opinion as the Military but better fitting in the pocket and perhaps better recieved in public as well. If that matters to you.

On Sale for $109.

Never had a problem with Spydies Compression Lock, so that's certainly a thought, even though it is just basically an upside down liner lock.

I'm not a big fan of liner locks either, although I've never had one fail.

How about one of the Benchmark Axis locks? Or a good old-fashioned lockback, like a Spyderco Endura or Buck 110?

Just throwing up some ideas.

Hey RWS. Did you by any chance lose a finger tip at Wendys? ;) :D

heck nah....they never promoted me from the fry bin! :D

Sebenza- thinkin' seriously about one. Could never afford one of the wood inlayed ones, but might could pick up a plain large Sebbie.

Manix- definitely appealing, like the flat grind and all. a little turned off by the lock after I had a Chinook II fail a spinewhack test against my forearm. But I'm sure that was a fluke, since I'm the only person in the world this seems to have happened to.

Cripe...listening to myself talk, maybe I should quit being a wimp and just EDC a Battle Mistress? :D

the compression lock is not an upside downliner lock. when force is applied to it, it won't slip sideways

Add up what you paid for all those failed liner locks and I'll bet you could have bought a wood inlay Sebenza and had enough left for an order of fries. ;)

............Or you could be a real man and pack a SAK. :D

Just EDC the Battle Mistress: most problems go away when a knife isn't made to bend in the middle.

How about something like a Bark River micro canadien? It avoids that folding problem but also avoids the issues that carrying a battle mistress might raise. Nice wood scales and have a sheath made that fits where you want to carry the thing and hell its probably as long as some of your folders were closed.
btw. what the hell do you do with your knives?

A few possibles:

Spyderco Police

Spyderco Para-Military (although I'm not a fan of the Compression-lock, it is better than a liner-lock in most respects)

Spyderco Chinook II

Spyderco Manix

Spyderco ATR (in titanium or SS)

Spyderco Stretch

Spyderco Endura II (if you don't mind AUS6)

Benchmade 635 Mini-Skirmish

Benchmade 10600 Snipe

CRKT BladeLock (if you don't mind AUS6)

CR Sebenza (if you've got the bucks)

Good luck,
Allen.

How about going retro with your edc? By that I mean a Buck 110 with a One-Armed-Bandit,available at SMKW, for one hand opening. If the stock 110 isn't up to your needs, Cabela's has them in SV30 steel or you could get one from the custom shop in BG42. As far as the clip goes, they're handy, but most of the country boys and semi-rednecks I grew up with just stuck them in the back pocket of their jeans(usually with a can of Cope) and never had any problems getting the knife out. Can't argue with a 110 as a tough user, its got a track record 10 miles long.

Lonewolf T-2 Ranger w/cocobolo handles! I have one of these coming tomorrow! :) I'll let everyone know how it holds up. I'm not a big fan of liner locks, but if they are done right they aren't bad.

Seriously consider a Sebenza with wood inlays. It will probably be the last knife you have to buy. I'd probably carry my large Sebenza everyday if it had wood inlays. I think I'm going to go for a small Sebenza with wood inlays when I do get one.

Maybe you should hold onto the Lonewolf T-2 Ranger w/cocobolo handles and save up your money. When the T-2 wears out again, maybe after being repaired it will hold up better, then you could get it fixed, sell it, and get the Sebenza.

Hey Wade,
You just damn near hit the nail on the head as far as my plans. I took the T-2 apart last night and cleaned the hell out of it. (more out of boredom than anything else) 'lo an' behold it's locking up as tight as day one again! :D I personally didn't think it seemed that dirty, but evidently the knife did. In any case I'm happy once again with it. And bear in mind, that slipping liner lock is the ONLY bad thing I've ever had to say about that knife. After taking it apart and giving it the evil eye, I really think that knife has a better liner lock than most I've seen, but time will tell.

However...considering my track record with liner locks, I'm still gonna set up a "Sebenza account" and start saving up for a wood inlayed one, just to be ready if the T-2 does ever fail me.

As far as other suggestions- Love the Buck 110, but I'd just as soon carry a fixed blade as the 110 daily just due to the weight.

Spydie Police- just got rid of one last summer, it was a heckuva good knife, but maybe a little too heavy for me. Considering my history with destroying folders, maybe I should just get used to some weight.

Bark River Mini/Micro Canadian- Been thinkin' about that one. Seems like it'd be a really nice set up carried in a pocket sheath like my AG Russell Woodswalker.

Manix- It's pretty desirable- definitely has all the good stuff, although I do consider it a bit on the homely side. Might get one anyways some day.

Paramillie- Certainly not a bad one. It's one to consider, but it just never managed to grab my attention like other knives have. But, sometimes the best friendships are thoe ones slowly developed over time, eh?

Also flirted the idea of getting a Becker Necker with a pocket sheath. Cheap enough to be expendable if I lose or break it anyways.

Mildly entertaining the idea of a Dozier, Bud Nealy, or some other small custom fixed blade. Had a Pesh Kabz once, woulda been perfect except for the thickened tip. I tend to peel alot more apples with my EDC than pierce armor... :D

Also considering some Balisongs, even though they are a bit more...hmmm....well......they just aren't my normal speed, and they're a good way to catch alot of flack.

Honest to God I don't know what I do to my folders that goes through them so badly. I use the hell outta them, and like playing with them when I'm bored, but other than that I don't throw, pry, dull, undersharpen...hmm....probably over sharpen a little...or improperly lubricate any of my knives. It's like I have the touch of death or something when it comes to breaking things. My father in law always said I could break a steel wrecking ball within an hour if I tried.

So RWS;
All those knives you broke or had fail seem to have really good warranties. What are those old pieces doing now?
