I want a good all around knife for hunting, hiking, Camping. Blade length 3.75"-5" I want stainless steel. I like the Chris Reeve Nyala a lot. I also like some Bark Rivers. So using the Nyala as a benchmark lets set the price at $230.

Buy a Fallkniven F1. Maybe add a custom sheath, though the factory leather flap sheath is great. Learn to use it for general hiking/camping chores, and call it good.

About two years as my only knife for hiking/camping (well plus a SAK). Has never failed to do what I needed it to do.

Not gonna win you any bragging rights verses a custom or a higher end production. But it works as its designed for. A tool.

Fällknivens are a superb choice.

Never had one but if I wanted to spend that I'd probably be looking at something in the Ban Tang BT4 family. He does them in different different stock thickness, with and without choil, works in several steels. That would be my starting point.

BT4 variant that appeals to me

I have looked long and hard at the Fallkniven F1. I just hate the handle. I know its a tool but I hate rubber/plastic handles. What do you guys think of the custom Fallkniven F1 at knivesshipfree. I would love a custom if they have something ready. I do not want to wait months to get my new knife. I well drop Ban tang and Gossman a line and see if they have anything ready.

I'm pretty sure Bark River does the handles on those KSF F1 customs or at least I know they have in the past.

I've got a Bravo 1 with Sambar Stag handles that would work for you. Never used just sitting on a shelf looking at me all sad and everything. Wants a new home so it can get out and play. Well within your $$ range at 200. It's in A2 steel however so it's not stainless like you want but still some good strong edge holding stuff. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer Craig but I think I am going to stick with SS at this point. I have been emailing Gossman and really like his WTK (wilderness trail knife) he says his turn around is only 3 weeks not to shabby. Would you go with CPM 154 or CPM s35v? and I am thinking brown canvas micarta for the scales.

Nice choice in a knife and 3 weeks is great for a custom. I'd say either is a good choice for steel but if it were me I'd lean towards the s35v, but that's just me being me. I'd like to get ahold of one someday $$$$ permitting and play with it.
