It's been a while since I bought a knife and a long time since I've been on this forum. I was thinking of buying a large sebenza to break the drought. I figured I might as well ask the experts since I'm sure some interesting stuff has come out in my absence.

I currently have mostly spydercos and benchmades which make up my EDC. They're mostly D2, M2, ZDP and H1. What I'm looking for would be not an every day knife. I'm not looking for something flashy, just something a little higher quality. It needs to be a folder that is not obnoxiously big. It has to be a high quality tool steel. A liner lock would be Ok but I'd prefer something more modern. I don't really have a task list for it. It could be anything from cutting boxes to stripping wire to cutting an eggroll in half. I'd say William Henry style blades would be too thin for what I'm looking for. I don't need any special corrosion resistance like a stainless. If I'm doing anything near water I usually just grab something I already have in H1. I'm looking to get something that I can put a super sharp edge on. I've never owned anything in fully hardened M2 or BG42.

I was looking at the large sebenza. I'm sure it's a great knife. I'm open to semi-customs and customs too. If someone is a sight sponsor or a member here I'd love to take a look. I'm obviously not trying to spend a lot of money. I'd say a soft budget of $500. If it's super cool and less that's a plus. It would really have to blow my socks off to go much higher than $500. I'm generally a utility over looks kind of guy but when I'm going to lay down this kind of cash it needs to look nice. That being said, I generally like the way the rugged, no-nonsense knives look.

Hm, Well If It's Going To Be A Special Occasion Knife You Probably Need Something That Looks Nice And Won't Scare People, And Something That Will Get The Job Done. If You Want Rugged As Well, I'll Try To Stick With "Looks Nice, Rugged, And Will Get The Job Done".
That Being Said...

For Under $500 You Can Look At:
CRK Small Sebenza
CRK Large Sebenza
CRK Umnumzaan
Lionsteel SR-1
Benchmade Skirmish - You Can Find Them On The Exchange Pretty Often
Benchmade Subrosa - If You Don't Mind Assisted
Bradley Alias 1
Bradley Alias 2
DPX H.E.S.T. 2.0
ZT 0550/0551
ZT 0560/0561
I Love My ZT 0301... For A More "Formal" Version, Just Get The ZT 0300 - Black On Black.
ZT 0200 Is Really Cool As Well.
Striders Are Pretty Awesome, You Could Get A SNG Or SMF, Or If You Want Smaller, Check Out The PT Or SJ75

I Would Say Sage 2 But You Probably Have It.

Spyderco Chokwe - This Is A REALLY Underrated Knife. It Looks Different But It's A Hell Of A Knife And Is My Current Favorite.

have you looked at the William Henry line ? The Mcusta's are really nice too. Ever thought about a slip joint ? - take a look at Great Eastern Cutlery, beautiful well made knives with all types of handle/scale options. Or anything upgraded (handles) by David Yellowhorse ?

Lionsteel has a few nice knives although it may be a little big. Mcusta also has "gentleman-ly" knives you can look at.

I just added a Bark River Essential EDC to my EDC rotation. Looks really gentlemanly and comes with an attractive Sharpshooter sheath. Mine is in CPM-M4 which is my favorite steel.

Wow dude thanks for posting that. You know when a knife catches your eye and you know its for you. I have a problem I just got a becker bk-2 tonight. I have a bradley mayhem in the mail. Got my zt 0560 about 3 weeks ago. And already have my next one planed, bark river essential edc . I also know that some day I will own a large sebenza hint hint OP. :D

I would suggest a sebenza of your choice or the bradley alias 2.

Although most of all, and I think you might like this one, look up the, Barry Wood PCC folder, really awesome athletic design, anyone with a eye for art will not find it intimidating, and it makes for a great user due to the unique handles. If you can find one, I highly suggest it. I recently just bought another one I like the knife so much.
