I wanted to get the benchmade afck 806 for the longest time but it has been discontinued. What other folders out there are similar to the afck 806 for SD? I'm willing to spend between 100-200. I want a blade that's around 4 inches with an excellent grip.
I'm considering the Spyderco Military or the Camillus CUDA MAXX (heard the grip isn't that good) and maybe the benchmade 710.

Contact Sportsman's Warehouse at 262-641-2000. They are in New Berlin, WI. They have an '806 new in box for $145.00. It's a plain edge D2. They also have a couple '710s in 154cm for $140.00 for those who have issues with D2.

Well, if the major thing that you like about the AFCK is the Axis lock, then I recommend the 710.

If a liner lock is OK with you, for instance, those Militaries mentioned above are great knives. And there are some others to consider as well, depending on how much you are looking to spend.

I'd suggest EKI CQC-8.
I own both knives and the handles feel very similar.
Also the emerson has the wave. Great for SD!

If I were you, I'd look for the real deal. There really aren't many knives out there that offer what the 806 does. A spyderco Renegade is very close in design, but they are even harder to find. The military has a similar foot print but doesn't offer you the grip of the 806. The cqc-8 does have a similar handle, but a substantailly different blade. I've got two 806s and will never get rid of either as it is my single favorite knife. If you want a different knife, I like the chinook2 and and the cqc-13.

I agree with this; and as it turns out there are a few available at this time. There's nothing quite like it, it's available at a reasonable price, it's what you want; looks like the proverbial "no brainer".

I guess I was refering to the way the 8s blade sort of sweeps backwards slightly, where as the 806s blade is tilted forward slightly. I do like the cqc-8 though and think it's a good design as are most, if not all, emersons I've seen.

If I would get a knife for self defense, I would get a fixed blade at least four inches long. I'm thinking if it is too large of a blade, I would have a hard time with discreet carry. I figure it would be faster to deploy, no need to figure out where the thumbstud is, etc. But I am always keeping in mind that using any weapon would be my last resort in defending myself, especially if the other guy is unarmed. But even if the offender has a weapon, I would try to get out of harms way ASAP. Then if cornered, do what I must to defend myself.
