I would like to buy a strop from sharpeningsupplies.com. Should I get the smooth or the suede leather? I plan on also getting the green compound. Will be used on my edc knives...3-4". Thanks!

This is your man. He makes beautiful strops 2 for 1 price. Load one with one compound and the other with your finishing compound. Like black & green paste or 1 micron diamond and .5 micron diamond. I have 'em they're the best strops I've ever owned.

After I am done sharpening on a UF ceramic benchstone, I move on to their strop (I have one of their paddles with smooth leather on one side and suede on the other). I only use the flesh side with green compound. Am I doing it right or should I finish it on the smooth side without any compound (I have tried but did not notice any difference)?
Also, I think some sort of mineral oil should be applied on the leather before putting the compound on, I use Lansky sharpening oil and I am quite pleased with the results.

I use a fairly soft, well used 1970's Romanian AK-47 leather sling as my strop. Work's fantastic!

I bought Hand American compressed leather, glued it to an oak plank that I cut into a handle (my own paddle) and loaded it with 1 micron diamond spray from Japaneseknifesharpener.com I think that was the website. I also got some green compound powder, but it appears to be too fine for some of the harder metals. I get more than satisfactory results with the 1 micron spray.

I bought two of the above member's strops. I loaded one with 1 micron 21 carat HA spray and the other with .5 micron 21 carat HA spray.

I made a 3rd and it's loaded with 2 micron HA paste. I have a mirror re-profiled edge on my ZT 0301 S30V slicer! :D

Kinda crappy pic but it's getting nicer every time I strop it - about 3 x's a day!

+1 on the strops mr2blue makes. Just received my set and they are very nice. Now I just have to get some compound and/or diamond spray so I can try them out.
