Are you talking the grate (flat piece on the inside bottom of the forge) or the tuyre. the pipe looking thingie.

all can be made from mild steel

If you want to know what tuyere is the best and cheapest ask the guys in the anvilfire.com forum. Most of those guys use nothing but coal forges and should be able to tell you what to do...
