Hello All

I found this forum during a search for a new pocket knife. There seem to be lots of knowledgeable people here so I thought I'd post a question.

I've owned a pocket knife of some description since I was kid (a long time ago ;) ). I've always wanted to carry one, but found it awkward, banging around in my pocket along with my keys and other pocket stuffing.

That changed when I was given a pocket knife with a clip so it could hang on the edge of my pocket. What a joy. Now I carry it every day and use it several times a day. Since the habit has been established and proven useful, I'd like to upgrade my knife a bit. I use my knife for all sorts of things and don't baby it or abuse it. Opening boxes and letters, cutting up cheese and apples, carving a hiking stick on the trail, cutting rope, stripping wire (in a pinch), ... anything else that comes up and won't damage the blade. My current knife has done all these thing well, it's a Chinese Kershaw #3160. My only real complaints are that it doesn't keep an edge all that well and the plastic grip is a bit fragile.

Things I'd like in a new knife:
Pocket clip
One hand opening
Sturdy 3" blade give or take a bit
Smooth and comfortable in the hand
More on the "refined woodsman" end of the scale, less of the "high-tech navy seal black ops" look.
Price tag in the $50 to $75 range

Any suggestions?

For your price range, I would recommend a Benchmade 556 Mini Griptilian. If you had more funds available, a Benchmade 707 Sequel.

One of my absolute favorites is the Spyderco Native. The model 3 was the first knife I carried as edc. They are small, lightweight and the older models are pretty cheap.

-Spyderco Endura or Delica (they come in all sorts of different flavours).

-Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight (slightly above your budget, at around $79, but worth mentioning).

-Spyderco Native (US made and S30V for around $75...)

-Cold Steel American Lawman (super tough, if you look at it forgetting CS' copy write it's a nice versatile drop point folder)

-Cold Steel Voyager (the 3" clip point version)

-Kershaw Shallot

-Kershaw Blur

-Kershaw Piston

-Kershaw Knock Out

Take a look at the Lone Wolf Swale or Lone Wolf ridge top. I think both look somewhat classy but yet solid built.

Thanks for all the input. Lots of food for thought. I like the look of the buck vantage pro and the Lone Wolf Ridge top.
