Help me pick my next traditional - looking for bone, carbon, wharnie, medium to large

Swayback Jack or similar patterns in Carbon Steel- D2 is probably in play if I like the pattern enough?

I have been looking at the Case for a little while but I am wondering what other suggestions for makers or similar style knives. I like a big wharncliffe and prefer bone and carbon. I prefer made in the usa but I would look at imports such as the AG Russell.

I have just started down the path and have a medium stockman and a regular trapper - at this point I like the bigger size of the trapper and seem to be gravitating towards the slightly larger traditionals?

Trying to stay under $150 so it's productions not customs yet.

So what say you?

GEC #62 and #53 Furtakers are options (my pics below). They also just released a #57 Geppetto whittler. There is also the #53 Cuban Castro with 2 wharncliffes and 2 sheepsfoot blades or the #72 lockback with a wharncliffe blade.

Another option right at your ceiling is a Scagel Fruitport. Its made by GEC on the #48 frame. I'm hoping GEC comes out with their own version of a wharncliffe trapper soon as they already seem to have all the pieces needed.

That scagel is pretty is it bone? I have been tempted by their un-X-Ld #23 trapper pattern w/liner lock too.

The green bone handled GEC Tidioute Furtaker that Trand showed comes in several colors of bone, plus stag-- a great choice.

They also made it in a Muskrat Furtaker, with the blades at opposite ends. Here is mine in Yellow Rose bone. 4-1/8" closed, 1095 carbon steel.

that's a nice looking knife but for some reason I can't get into the symetrical patterns - but after looking at your avatar I'm putting stag into the mix as well.

S&M makes a good looking swayback in worm groove bone with a wharcliffe blade...but I think the blade is SS. Might be worth taking a look at.

That File & Wire swayback is a nice solid knife. Probably run you $80-90.

Well thanks guys for all the suggestions - unfortunately over the weekend I lost my only other bone handled case so the decision was a lot easier.

I ordered the Case SBJ in chestnut and CV.

I'll save all your other suggestions for next months purchase.

Thanks for all the input and great pictures.

Those Chestnut SBJs are sweet knives; nice score. Those Tidioute Furtaker Trappers are pretty sweet too, I wish I had a wharncliffe instead of a spey on my trapper.

Please post some thoughts/pics of your new SBJ. That one is on my short list.

For your second wharnie I will second the Scagel Fruitport. I've been carrying mine on the regular for last several weeks and I love it. Takes a superb patina and the pocket slip that comes with it is a great way to carry it. Plus the blade sports a Bark River convex grind and is absolutely the sharpest out of the box folder I have ever seen. They are a little bit pricier than some but I think you'll find you get what you pay for with these.

Here's mine:
