I need toget a gift for a buddy of mine. I want to get him a knife as the one he has is very beaten up and abused. I would like the knife to be a folder with a 3"-4" blade. I would also like it to have a pocket clip and cost around $30. What would your suggestion be?

A few more suggestions:
Byrd Cara Cara or Crow
Kershaw G-10 Needs Work (~$40)
Kershaw Chive, Leek or Scallion

3--4 inch blades of the Byrd line (Cara Cara, Raven, Meadowlark. Just gave a Raven to a coworker, he liked it a lot.)

Maybe a Vic's with pocket clips

Spyderco Tenacious or the larger version that just came out (forgot the name)

I think a Kershaw Select Fire is the best sub-$25 knife you can buy. It would be a great gift.

Your Friend,
Shawn ;)

You could get him a Buck Vantage Avid for around 30 bucks. Or jump up to 50 and get him the Buck Vantage Pro with polished G10 scales with a S30v blade not to mention a perfect clip.

just my 2 cents.

Mike

ill +1 the rat 1 with the following caveat, it is very stiff when you take it out of the box for the first time. It takes awhile to open smoothly. That could affect the perception some might have in terms of its quality.

I just got a RAT 1 too. For the money ($25) ... great knife.

If you like backlocking knives, the Byrd Cara Cara G10 now comes with a full flat ground blade. These are sturdy knives.

That or a linerlocking Spyderco Tenacious.

Another vote forth rat-1 here. Mine had smooth opening straight out of the box. Although I will suggest the polished blade over theblack coated one, it scratches up pretty easily.
Spyderco tenacious is also another great choice, and if you're willing to step up to $50 the buck vantage pro cannot be beaten.

+1 I love my Avid. Best fitting knife I've ever had in my pocket. Very slim and unobtrusive, very nice shape and a great pocket clip too!

Boker Trance. Its 2.75" blade feels and performs like a bigger blade. Great lockup and construction.:thumbup:

I was very impressed with these suggestions. Some very cool knives. I decided to spend a little more and go with the Buck Vantage Pro. I think my buddy will really appreciate the quality and he is a big Buck fan. Thanks again for the great recommendations.
