i'm in the market for a new edc. my current is a kershaw leek stainless.

i like---

1. the size
2. the slim profile
3. assisted opening (not essestial though)
4. blade style

don't like---

1. grip-- i have big hands--becomes an issue during really tough jobs
2. blade material--seems like i have to sharpen even after light use on cardboard.

anyone have suggestions for a knife with the same general qualities as a leek but with more beefy steel and a more solid grip?

try the Kershaw Blur. bigger, beefier, assisted open, fantastic grip, and almost as slim.

the Leek is also my usual EDC, and here are a few others i rather like:

CRKT M16-01K (great grip, just as slim and small as the Leek, though a bit more sinister-looking, reasonable edge retention)

Spyderco Stainless Steel Endura (bigger, heavier, but very slim, very elegant, a champion slicer, and for AUS6, holds a fantastic edge!)

SOG Twitch (just got this one, so i can't say too much about edge retention, but decent grip, super-slim, though a tad smaller than the Leek, and assisted opening)

good luck on your new buy!

If you haven't any price limits, an MOD Hornet or Tempest might fill your needs. 154CM blades hold an edge well. It's got a slim profile at the spine but wider in the handle and blade. Excellent fit, finish and reliabilty. Hardly noticeable in the pocket or waistband,

Check out the Camillus Cuda Dominator. Great knife, assisted opening, slim Ti handle and a great S30V blade.

Based on your criteria I'd suggest you look at the Benchmade 940/941 series. The blade shape on the clip-point version is similar to the Leek and 941's blade length is only 0.4" longer. The grip is very slim, but the contouring makes it feel secure in the hand. They don't offer assisted-opening, but the Axis lock makes for a fast and smooth-opening knife. Blade steel is 154CM, an excellent high-end steel with excellent edge-holding.

How about a Griptillian? I figure whenever you combine a GREAT handle with 440C (one of my favorite EDC steels) and then add the AXIS lock, you can't lose.

Something like a BM Axis 705 would be great.

G-10 stainless lined handles, 154CM (ATS-34) or M2, and Axis lock.

It's not assisted opening but flicks open very fast.

BM 94X series nice size, slim, good blade. Good choise of steels in special editions. Regular 154CM. I'm a big pawed guy and I love my 940D2CF for EDC duties and it will hold up to more then one cartboard box.

Great advice, I was going to say the same thing. I'm not much of a folder guy, but I carry this one DAILY. I love everything about it.
