This weekend im heading out on a canoe trip and only want to carry one knife to keep it lightweight. But I dont know which to carry, so ill leave it to the knife experts!

Choices are - Blind Horse PLSK2 - Ron Post recurve hunter - Mossington Woodlore Clone.

Thanks

Shouldn't you pick the one that works best for you, if it is going to be your only knife you should probably pick the one that you feel you could stake your life on. That said I like the recurve hunter only because the sheath looks like it has some serious retention.

Without knowing a few other things I find it hard to be absolute. It doesn't look it but that middle one could be as thick as brick for all I know. You might also spend a bunch of time on your trip sat round a camp fire whittling clothes pegs for all I know. That said, if I just run with the information I've got here A and C seem by far the least appropriate. When in a canoe are you going to be push cutting sticks? If it were my canoe trip I know that the most cutting would be foods, slicing cut type stuff with the whole width of the blade passing through. By the looks of it the middle one would far better than either of the other two for actual work like that. Add in the middle one looking to have a better grip when wet / slippery, and the superior security of the sheath, and it doesn't look like much of a contest to me at all.

Whichever knife you will miss the least.

This is what I was thinking too.

But I tend to want to take a few nicer knives along just to be able to use them.

The last canoe trip I took, I carried a Busse BAD in a kydex sheath on my belt. I used a Black Hawk retention lanyard to make sure I did not loose it.

I also took a Busse SarQ in my backpack.

This year? not sure, I can't, for the life of me, find the nice retention lanyard, so I will have to rethink my options.

I dumped my canoe in the lake a few weeks ago. I had my 6 year old son in the center, and another gentleman in the front. (Strong wind, cross waves, and an untimely switch of paddling side by both of us, not helped by the 6 year old's movement).

I did not think once about the knife in my pocket while trying to push the canoe and the the 6 year old to shore!

I was carrying one of my least expensive knives. A $300 knife on the belt, or in the pocket would have been one more thing to worry about. (my brand new smart phone was in a ziplock bag, and luckily stayed dry).

I am going on an over nighter here soon. I will have to decide.

I was thinking the one with the best retention, but you have a point.

I happen to like that re-curve hunter, are those still being made?

The one in the dangler would be more comfortable to have on your belt when seated for long periods.

+1 on recurve hunter. I always like a little belly, it reminds me of ... me

Reading a lot of everyone's recommendations and I like the idea of the bring the knife you'll miss the most. Problem is id miss them all haha. The re-curve is a great knife for food prep and the woodlore is my favorite for bushcraft! But the PLSK2 I just got and its unused! Though the sheath for the re-curve would be better if i dumped the canoe.

As far as I know Ron still makes them, google postknives to find his site.
