Which one do you pick first and why? I know even there not in the same size category.
But I thought it would be good to hear from some experienced users. Thanks a lot...

If the question is "which knife do you pick" and one of the options is any variety of FBM, that is the immediate answer.

The NMFBM was my grail, until I recently got one. It was everything I expected it to be.

I have a SFNO, but it is the BG version. I like it more than I thought I would, but it doesn't speak to me like the NMFBM does.

Depends on what you are going to use it for, all rounder - one knife solution the NMSFNO, for pure chopping the NMFBM

I have the NMSFNO and SFNO, I do not have a NMFBM. With that said I love my NMSFNO but would think if your looking to chop. Then I'd go with the NMFBM I've read it's a pretty serious chopper.

I have to disagree here; for me as a one knife solution the NMFBM is king. It is certainly a good chopper, but it is pretty nimble for the size and is still suited to smaller tasks. I have had both a SFNO and a NMSFNO and neither one felt quite right to me so I moved them on. In all honesty both are great knives, but they are different beasts.

I agree with zmbhntr here. I prefer a Mistress size for "all around" use. Why limit yourself with the smaller knife?

As I read, they have both full height convexed ground. So compare to full flat grounds, what kind of advantages or disadvantages they have for all rounder or for pure chopping tasks?

I'm just echoing what others have said here but they are very different knives. The NMSFNO is a great do it all blade in my opinion. If you plan to be doing lots of chopping, then get the NMFBM otherwise, honestly, to me the NMFBM is a little bit clubby in comparison. I'm not knocking the NMFBM but it was designed with chopping in mind as it's primary use. The NMSFNO was designed as an all arounder that still had good chopping ability but still functional in other tasks as well. I'm not saying the NMFBM can only chop but personally I only use a NMFBM if I am chopping. Otherwise, there are better Busse knives suited for cutting and such.

Once I would have just said 'NMSFNO - perfect one-knife solution that really can chop.' Now, while I recognize this opinion puts me in a distinct minority, my answer is 'whatever one that doesn't have that :censored:ing fusion handle!' I haven't bothered with a NMFBM because I know without actually handling one it's too large for my use (scout carry while trail running, for downed tree chopping), I did try a satin CGFBM with a nicely convexed edge, expecting it to be a little bigger than my favored satin/convexed NMSFNO but a better chopper. What I found out instead was that a) it's too big for my use, and b) I hate the fusion handle.

And now for some gratuitous NMSFNO pr0n ;)

The NMFBM is a monster chopper, especially in the original skinnier CG version, with a reprofiled edge. I have a hard time seeing it in an all-rounder role, but truth be told, I haven't tried it for that. YMMV. (hint, hint: CGFBM)

The NMSFNO is a good size for an all-rounder, but a tad small as a chopper. In this size, IMHO, it comes down to handle preference. I prefer the Fusion handle, so the NMSFNO moved along, in favor of various flavors of FSH. As you have read above, opinions vary.

Of course, in an 8" blade, the right answer is Basic 8 LE. HHFSH is pretty good, too.

The answer is ALWAYS Basic 8...

Collecting = NMFBM

usefulness = NMSFNO

I have both but waited a LONG time for a NMFBM I could afford.

Someone made me an offer I could not refuse.

I would actually look hard at the upcoming release of the Bunker Buster LE with an 8 1/2 inch blade-Lots of folks like the Res-C handles, I am not one of them-Cheers!!!

Nmfsh. Not one of the options I realize, but it's a fat, ffg, lighter than it looks, do it all knife.

For a long time I thought this exact same thing. The NMFSH is a fantastic knife for sure; however, once I got my first NMFBM my feelings changed and decided that it felt better to me than the NMFSH. They are both epic knives, but I prefer the fact that the NMFBM is slightly longer and thinner than the NMFSH.

Question: can we say full height convex grind chops better than ffg? for instance, NMFBM (full height convex) vs NMFSH (ffg).

Not really. They are both good choppers, but IMO the NMFBM chops better because it is longer. That being said, it's really the edge that makes a huge difference. Most Busse's need some edge work to really shine. I like to put a 19 degree edge on my larger Busse's and they chop like a dream.
