I had a Gerber folder(with leather sheath) in the very early 1980's. It may not have been the greatest knife but I loved it. Is either Gerber or someone
else making a similiar version. It had a 3 or 3.5 inch dropoint blade with several notches on top of the blade to keep your hand from slipping. It was I am guessing Rosewood with brass bolsters, and groves on the bottom of the handle for gripping, and it was very solid. I can't remember if it was called the magnum or something else. I am no knife expert so any help would be appreciated....Thanks

Yep you have it right. They were considered premium knives when they came out. Had 440C blades at first and were very well made USA quality work.

They show up on ebay a lot. Just do a search and you may find one mint to some well used ones.

The folding Sportsman 1 #6101 although a later model made after Fiskars involvement and the PK3 Electricians knife called the HandyMan which was an earlier pre Fiskars model with the locking screwdriver are two of my favorites of the time but I have several others from that era. I guess my all time favorite is the PK2. The real problem with these slim line folders was that although they were quality made they were heavy and easily tore a hole in your pocket from EDC with the sharp edges of the handles. If they'd only have thought to put a pocket clip on them.

Even still they are great pieces of yesteryear. The big one you speak of is still one I intend to buy one of these days. I had one in my 20s but couldn't tell you what happened to it. http://cgi.ebay.com/GERBER-MAGNUM-F...ryZ63795QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I think you're right, it was called the Magnum. I had one (since stolen) and it was a good knife. Click this link to Cutler's Cove, I think that's the knife we are talking about. I believe there were some minor cosmetic changes over the years but they looked pretty much like this.

I photo enhanced the one on ebay that I put a link to. These will look pretty washed out but they show the pins. This is one of the older ones and looks to be in good shape but it is very hard to tell when the pics are that dark.
